Aaron Judge continued his red-hot run on Sunday afternoon in Sacramento, blasting two home runs in the Yankees’ matchup against the Athletics. The outfielder’s performance gave him 14 homers on the season, the most in Major League Baseball.

Aaron Judge first got to the Athletics in the fourth inning, sending a solo shot to center field that cut A’s lead to 4–1. In the fifth, he struck again, launching a fastball off the batter’s eye in center for his second home run of the day and 14th of the season, making it a 4–2 game.

As of now, the Yankees trail the A’s 7–6, with some shaky defense contributing to the deficit.

The two home runs marked Aaron Judge’s 41st career multi-homer game—more than any other player through their first 1,200 career games, according to MLB’s Sarah Langs.

Athletics control early, withstand Aaron Judge’s surge

The Athletics jumped out to an early lead and showed poise despite Aaron Judge’s damage. Oakland’s starter kept the Yankees in check through the first three innings, and the bullpen did enough to avoid further trouble after Judge’s second blast.

Even with the Yankees captain threatening to turn the game around, the A’s pitching held its ground. The game was another opportunity for the young Oakland staff to face one of baseball’s most dangerous hitters—and while Aaron Judge delivered, the A’s stayed composed.

Aaron Judge is doing more than leading the league in home runs—he’s pulling away from the field. According to @YankeeWRLD, the gap in wRC+ between Aaron Judge and second-place Pete Alonso is the same as between Alonso and the 20th-ranked hitter, Marcell Ozuna. It’s a testament to just how dominant the Yankees slugger has been.

SNY’s Yankees account reacted to the second blast with: “AARON JUDGE’S SECOND HOME RUN OF THE DAY!” while Talkin’ Yanks declared, “Aaron Judge is your new MLB home run leader!”

Although the Yankees couldn’t pull off the win this time, Sunday’s game offers a better chance for a comeback. They fell 11-7 on Saturday despite Aaron Judge’s two-homer performance. Facing Judge at his best is a challenge few pitchers overcome—and it’s a benchmark the Athletics’ roster can build on moving forward.
