Zack Britton, a reliever for the Yankees, is recovering from an injury and this was a relatively minor but nonetheless significant step.

On Wednesday night, it appeared as though Britton was able to complete the first game of his minor-league rehab assignment without any problems.

The former left-handed All-Star, who is currently making his way back from Tommy John surgery, made two plate appearances for Low-A Tampa and threw 15 pitches. He had a groundout and a strikeout in his stat line.

The signature sinker used by Britton reached a top speed of 93.4 mph and maintained an average speed of 92 mph. Eight sinkers, two sliders, and a changeup were among the pitches he threw.

Since the end of the previous season, when he appeared in 22 games and had an earned run average of 5.89, the 34-year-old has not thrown a pitch. The Yankees have high hopes that he can get back to the form he showed in 2019-2020, when he made 86 appearances and had an ERA of 1.90.

The Yankees are hopeful that Britton will be able to return to the major leagues around the middle of September, but it is currently unknown when he will participate in his next rehabilitation game.
