The Yankees have signed Roc Riggio and Brian Hendry both players have been playing at Oklahoma State Cowboys. As the 2023 MLB Draft concluded, the Cowboys found themselves facing a significant challenge.
After securing lucrative contracts, all seven of the Cowboys’ selected players were en route to the big leagues, setting Coach Josh Holliday with the challenge of rebuilding the roster for the upcoming Big 12 baseball season. Notably, two of the players, Roc Riggio, the standout second baseman, and Brian Henry, opted to sign with the Yankees. Riggio’s decision garnered significant attention as he made his move to the professional level.
Who is Roc Riggio?
Known for his electrifying style of play, Riggio was chosen with pick No. 129 in the draft, with a slotted value of $506,800. However, he surpassed expectations by securing an impressive signing bonus of $693,000 from the New York Yankees.
The decision to invest in Riggio seemed justified, given his impressive statistics at Oklahoma State, including a .335 batting average, 17 doubles, 3 triples, 18 home runs, 66 runs scored, and 61 RBIs. The young player’s potential seemed to fit well with the Yankees, and he was undoubtedly a valuable addition to their roster.
Other prospect: Brian Hendry joins the Yankees
Another player from the Cowboys roster also found new opportunities in the Bronx. Brian Hendry, a pitcher, was chosen by the New York Yankees with pick No. 312, highlighting the team’s keen interest in Oklahoma State talent.
