New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge has been named the American League’s Most Valuable Player in a unanimous vote by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, marking the second time in his career he has received the honor. Judge’s standout season solidified his place as one of the greatest players of his generation, leading the Yankees back to the World Series for the first time in 15 years, despite their defeat to the Dodgers.
Aaron Judge’s historic season
Aaron Judge delivered one of the most dominant offensive campaigns in recent Yankees history, leading Major League Baseball with 58 home runs, 144 RBIs, and 133 walks. His power and consistency helped propel New York to the postseason and a World Series appearance, reigniting the Bronx Bombers’ championship ambitions.
The 32-year-old outfielder became the first Yankee to earn unanimous MVP honors since Mickey Mantle in 1956. His leadership on and off the field was pivotal as the Yankees overcame injuries and challenges to reestablish themselves as an American League powerhouse.
“It means a lot,” Aaron Judge said of the award. “A lot of hard work in the offseason, during the season, and navigating the ups and downs. I’m grateful for the constant support from my teammates, the fans in New York, and everyone who played a part in this journey.”
In addition to his MVP award, Aaron Judge claimed the 2024 Hank Aaron Award, given to the league’s most outstanding offensive performer. He became the first player since Prince Fielder to record at least 140 RBIs in a season, showcasing his ability to deliver in key moments.
Aaron Judge edged out Yankees teammate Juan Soto and Kansas City Royals phenom Bobby Witt Jr. for the AL MVP. Soto’s contributions to the Yankees’ success further highlighted the team’s depth, but Judge’s overall impact made him the clear choice for the honor.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone praised Aaron Judge’s remarkable performance, calling it one of the best seasons he has ever witnessed.
“After seeing Aaron win MVP in 2022, I didn’t think it was possible to top that,” Boone said. “But 2024 proved me wrong. He’s not just an incredible player but an exceptional leader, and I’m beyond fortunate to manage him. This award is well-deserved, and I can’t wait to see him continue to build his legacy.”
Aaron Judge’s season was a defining moment for the Yankees, ending their prolonged World Series drought and reestablishing their reputation as perennial contenders.
As the Yankees captain continues to cement his place among the franchise’s all-time greats, fans are already looking forward to what the future holds for Aaron Judge and the team.
