On Tuesday night, Austin Wells launched his first home run at the Triple-A level with such force that it practically tore the cover off the ball. This solo home run by the Yankees prospect served as a catalyst for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, igniting a comeback that led to a 6-5 victory over their Boston affiliate.
In the eighth inning, Austin Wells, who is ranked as the Yankees’ No. 8 prospect on MLB Pipeline, unleashed his prowess at the plate. He emphatically connected with a 2-1 pitch from pitcher Justin Hagenman, propelling the ball to 473 feet with an exit velocity of 108.7 mph. The powerful drive found its way into the right field at Polar Park in Worcester.

The 24-year-old player has demonstrated consistency since his elevation to the Triple-A level in the last week of July, having accumulated a .740 OPS over 21 games with the RailRiders, including a 1-for-5 performance on Tuesday.
Known for his catching abilities and 55-grade power, Austin Wells has also showcased his prowess with nine extra-base hits in the International League. Before his advancement to the highest tier of the minors, the Yankees prospect displayed a .237/.327/.443 slash line with 11 home runs and five steals during his time with Double-A Somerset.
Beyond his own performance on the field, Austin Wells had made a significant impact by offering assistance to rookie Anthony Volpe regarding his batting technique earlier in the season. The catcher provided valuable guidance to the newcomer, advising him on reverting to his previous batting stance.
Chosen as the 28th overall pick in the first round of the abbreviated 2020 MLB Draft, Austin Wells was drafted from the University of Arizona. Since embarking on his professional baseball journey, he has amassed a total of 49 home runs while maintaining an impressive .843 OPS.
