The New York Yankees have opened as the biggest American League Championship Series (ALCS) favorites since their 2000 World Series run, reflecting a strong belief in their chances to make another push for the title. As they gear up to face the Cleveland Guardians, oddsmakers have pegged the Yankees at -210 to advance to the World Series, according to BetMGM Sportsbook. This marks the first time since their historic 2000 season that the Yankees have been such dominant favorites in the ALCS.

In comparison, the Yankees were listed as -270 favorites over the Seattle Mariners in 2000, according to Sports Odds History. In fact, the Bronx Bombers’ odds are among the best in recent ALCS history, trailing only a handful of teams. Two notable National League teams with better odds were the 2020 Los Angeles Dodgers (-220) against the Braves and the 2010 Philadelphia Phillies (-270) against the Giants.

Yankees’ high success rate as ALCS favorites

Historically, when the Yankees have entered the ALCS with -210 odds or better, they’ve had a high success rate of reaching the World Series. Out of 13 teams to be favored by these odds since 1969, nine have gone on to secure a place in the Fall Classic. Additionally, in the three instances the Yankees held such odds in the ALCS (1998, 1999, and 2000), they emerged victorious in the World Series each time.

Yankees’ current World Series odds behind the Dodgers

While the Yankees are favored to win the ALCS, they remain second in line to win the World Series, with current odds at +180 behind the Dodgers, who sit at +160. The Dodgers have been the top pick at DraftKings Sportsbook for most of the 2024 season, making a potential Yankees-Dodgers showdown in the World Series an exciting prospect.

Game 1 of the ALCS against the Guardians

As the Yankees prepare for Game 1 of the ALCS on Monday, they are currently -150 home favorites against the Guardians. With their powerful lineup led by Aaron Judge, who celebrated with teammates after clinching the Division Series against the Kansas City Royals, the Yankees appear poised for another deep playoff run. Juan Soto, another key player, has also been instrumental in getting the team this far, and the Yankees will rely on his contributions as well.

The Guardians, meanwhile, come into the series with the worst odds of the remaining four teams to win the World Series, sitting at +450. They are considered underdogs against the Yankees in this series, but playoff baseball is always full of surprises, and the Guardians will look to challenge New York’s dominant position.

For Yankees fans, the team’s current odds bring a sense of optimism as they chase another World Series title. If history is any indication, the Bronx Bombers have a good chance of continuing their march toward glory.
