The New York Yankees have optioned infielder Oswald Peraza following their victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday afternoon. While this move may be a setback for the 24-year-old, it signals the potential return of Jazz Chisholm, who is eligible to be activated from the injured list on Friday as the Yankees prepare to face the Colorado Rockies in a weekend series.

Be that as it may, according to SNY’s Andy Martino, the Yankees are set to activate Jazz Chisholm Jr. prior to Friday’s game against the Rockies

Chisholm, acquired from the Miami Marlins at the trade deadline in a significant deal, made an immediate impact with his power and speed before being sidelined. With the Yankees entering a more favorable stretch of their schedule, Chisholm’s return could bolster their lineup as they aim to extend their lead in the American League East.

Oswald Peraza, who served as a platoon infielder during his stint in the majors, delivered a solid performance against left-handed pitchers. He recorded a .773 OPS, a 114 wRC+, and hit his fourth career home run while displaying strong defensive skills at third base. Despite his contributions, Peraza’s time with the team was expected to be brief, especially after Chisholm reported no pain following a recent batting practice session, indicating his readiness to return.

As Oswald Peraza heads back to Scranton, the focus shifts to Chisholm, who posted a 194 wRC+ with the Yankees before his injury. With DJ LeMahieu struggling this season, Chisholm’s return could be pivotal for the Yankees as they seek stability at third base.

After dropping the first game of their homestand against the Guardians, the Yankees responded with two consecutive wins, reclaiming first place in the AL East. With the Baltimore Orioles in close pursuit, the Yankees hope to capitalize on the upcoming series and build momentum for the postseason.

In addition to Chisholm, several other Yankees players are nearing their returns. Ian Hamilton, Cody Poteet, Clarke Schmidt, Lou Trivino, and Anthony Rizzo are all set to begin rehab assignments in Somerset this weekend, potentially providing the team with much-needed pitching and infield reinforcements as they push towards October.

With Jazz back, will they give Cabrera time in LF or at 2B against a tough RHP? Or, maybe even a game at 1B? Cabrera shouldn’t be an ever player, but a guy who plays 4-5 times a week at different spots on the diamond in my opinion.
