According to Meredith Marakovits of the YES Network, Yankees rookie Oswald Peraza‘s status is being evaluated on a day-to-day basis due to swelling in his left knee.
On Sunday, Peraza had an MRI that yielded no concerning findings. But he will continue to receive close monitoring. The Yankees anticipate having a better understanding of his potential participation in Tuesday’s doubleheader after assessing his condition in the morning.
It’s worth noting that Peraza was not included in Monday’s lineup for the Yankees’ game against the Red Sox.
Despite his regular presence in the lineup since returning to the Yankees in late August, Peraza remains absent for a second consecutive day. Manager Aaron Boone has opted to field his left-handed hitters against the Boston right-handed pitcher, Kutter Crawford.
Prior to Monday’s game, Aaron Boone revealed that the Venezuelan player has been grappling with inflammation in his left knee. A clear MRI result was obtained yesterday, but they are adopting a day-to-day approach in his case. Meanwhile, his fellow countryman, Oswaldo Cabrera, was announced as the replacement for the pregame coverage of the game against the Boston Red Sox.
Peraza has a batting average of .188, tallying 21 hits and scoring 8 runs.
Pereira’s potential injury scare for Yankees
Notably missing from the lineup is 22-year-old outfielder Everson Pereira, who may be sidelined due to a possible injury. Despite encountering difficulties since his call-up, his potential positions him as a candidate for a starting role in the upcoming spring training. According to manager Boone, Pereira is currently dealing with feeling “under the weather” and remains on a day-to-day status.
At 22 years old, Pereira has faced challenges in adapting to the major leagues, registering a batting average of just .150 and an OBP of .239.
