Despite being eligible to return to the New York Yankees on Friday following his time on the injured list, Harrison Bader has decided to extend his rehab assignment with Double-A Somerset and will continue playing through the weekend.
Due to his recurring injury concerns, Harrison Bader has been on the injured list since Memorial Day when he strained his hamstring during a game against the Seattle Mariners. Prior to the injury, he had appeared in only 26 games for the Yankees this season.
After sitting out the initial 30 games of the season due to a strained oblique, Harrison Bader’s return to the lineup was short-lived as he sustained a hamstring injury while running to first base in the game against the Mariners.
During his 26-game tenure with the New York Yankees, Harrison Bader showcased strong performance. In 90 at-bats, he maintained a batting average of .267 and recorded six home runs, 19 RBIs, 14 runs scored, and six stolen bases. Additionally, he exhibited an impressive on-base percentage of .806.
In August of the previous year, the New York Yankees acquired Harrison Bader from the St. Louis Cardinals by trading reliever Jordan Montgomery. During his time with the Yankees, the latter struggled in the regular season, batting only .217 without hitting any home runs in 14 games. However, Montgomery experienced a resurgence during the postseason, delivering an impressive performance with five home runs and a batting average of .333 across nine games.
Throughout his eight seasons in Major League Baseball, Harrison Bader has established himself as a player who consistently hits around .246. His relentless hustle on the field has become his trademark. Despite winning only one Gold Glove award, he has earned a reputation as one of the premier center fielders in the league, recognized for his exceptional defensive skills.
Undoubtedly, when it comes to fan bases in MLB, Yankee Nation is known for its passionate and demanding nature. Regardless of the team’s decisions or actions, it often seems that the fans hold the belief that the team is making the wrong choices.
Assuming Harrison Bader successfully navigates through the upcoming weekend of minor league games without any setbacks to his injury, he is anticipated to make his return to the Yankees’ lineup on Tuesday. Coincidentally, their opponents will once again be the Mariners, the same team against whom he suffered his initial injury on Memorial Day.
