Reports indicate that the New York Yankees are considering a trade for Miami Marlins star Jazz Chisholm Jr. ahead of the MLB trade deadline. According to Jon Heyman of The Post, the Yankees have discussed Chisholm as a potential acquisition, though the depth of their interest remains uncertain as the July 30 trade deadline nears.
Chisholm, who was an All-Star second baseman in 2022, demonstrated his versatility by transitioning to center field in 2023. This adaptability could be appealing to the Yankees, addressing both infield needs and providing flexibility for Aaron Judge‘s playing time.
He has delivered league-average performance over recent seasons, with OPS+ ratings of 100 and 104 in 2023 and 2024, respectively. His 2024 stats include a .256/.325/.414 slash line, 11 home runs, 41 RBI, and 18 stolen bases in 89 games.
Under team control through 2026, Chisholm’s potential as a trade asset is significant. His previous All-Star performance and ability to adapt positions make him an intriguing option for the Yankees as they seek roster improvements.
The 26-year-old outfielder is posting a solid season, with a .255/.326/.407 slash line, a 105 wRC+, ten home runs, and 17 stolen bases out of 25 attempts. Chisholm has improved his plate discipline, lowering his strikeout rate to 24.9% from a previous average of 29.2% over four seasons, and achieving a career-best 8.8% walk rate. Throughout his career, he has averaged 26 home runs and 32 steals per 162 games, showcasing his dynamic potential.
However, durability remains a concern, as Chisholm has yet to play more than 124 games in a season. Since becoming a regular in 2021, he has faced various injuries, including shoulder, back, toe, and oblique issues.
Chisholm is under team control through 2026 and is earning $2.625 million this season. Initially a shortstop, he transitioned to second base early in his career and has played center field for the Marlins over the past two seasons, receiving mixed defensive reviews.
His trade rumors arise as the Marlins seem to be entering a rebuilding phase, following their trade of Luis Arráez to the San Diego Padres earlier this season. Jon Heyman previously reported that multiple teams, including the Yankees, have shown interest in Marlins reliever Tanner Scott, suggesting he could also be on the move before the deadline.
Yankees fans don’t want a Chisholm trade
The potential acquisition of Chisholm has generated buzz, with mixed reactions from Yankees fans on social media. Some supporters are excited about his potential, while others question if he addresses the team’s most pressing needs. Concerns about his injury history and defensive fit have also been raised by fans on various platforms.

You said it : aside from the chronic injuries, he’s an average player for the past 2 years. Cashman needs to STOP bringing in these average/mediocre players. We’re trying to win A World Series, not a wild card. P. S. hey Cash, you don’t like the paper – mashete fragility of Stanton? You don’t like how injury prone this team has been for years?? STOP TRADING FOR FRAGILE PLAYERS. duh
