The New York Yankees are looking for a rebuilding and there are reports linking the team to a well-liked St. Louis Cardinals’ player. According to The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner, the Yankees could explore potential trade scenarios involving him in the upcoming offseason.
St. Louis is undoubtedly in search of bolstering their starting rotation and currently boasts an abundance of offensive talent. Despite being sellers leading up to the 2023 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline, the Cardinals were engaged in several trade discussions, with Brendan Donovan‘s name surfacing in trade rumors.
Although Donovan stayed put in St. Louis at that time, reports suggest that the Yankees could explore potential trade scenarios involving him in the upcoming offseason, as noted by The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner.
Is he a good fit for the Yankees
Kirschner suggested that Brendan Donovan, whose season had been shortened due to elbow surgery, could be a logical fit for what the Yankees were in need of. He described Donovan as a left-handed batter with a high on-base percentage and a low strikeout rate, who had achieved a .787 OPS in 95 games that season while playing multiple positions. Kirschner also pointed out that Donovan’s OPS would have ranked third on the Yankees, behind Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres. According to Kirschner, the Yankees required more quality hitters for the upcoming season, and Donovan could fill that void.
He further noted that because Donovan was a pre-arbitration player, it would likely require a significant offer for the Cardinals to consider trading him. Kirschner suggested that a package including Clarke Schmidt, Randy Vasquez, and Clayton Beeter might pique the Cardinals’ interest in trading Donovan. Given the limited availability of impact bats in the free-agent market, Kirschner believed it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Yankees acquire a few hitters through trades.
Brendan Donovan showcased his exceptional talent during the season with the Cardinals, although he was limited to just 95 games due to various injuries. The 26-year-old contributed 11 home runs, 34 RBIs, and boasted a strong slash line of .284/.365/.422. Additionally, he demonstrated outstanding defensive skills at multiple positions. With the Cardinals actively seeking additional pitching depth and the Yankees possessing a surplus of arms, there have been previous hints of a potential trade involving Donovan. It appears that discussions regarding a trade could resurface during the upcoming offseason.

The numbers aren’t all that impressive. The number one priority for the ownership should be to replace Cashman.
We need a Juan Pierre-type player to get on base, cause havoc, and score runs.
More small ball is needed.
Just another Bader, IMO. Nothing to get get excited about.
Take those Arms along with Stanton and trade them all for Juan Soto.
Love getting rid of Stanton.
Proposed trade giving up way to much would rather trade some position players
Dairon Blanco of KC would give the team the speed they need
Need more on base hitters and one hard hitting left hand bad to add. Torres needs to stay at second. No body hitting below 240 needs to stay in line up.
One Yankee line up had 6, yup 6 batters in the lineup under .217.
As a Cardinal fan, this offer doesn’t work. The Cardinals already have many pitchers like those three.
An offer involving one of those three and one of Thorpe, Warren or Hampton would work.
Get Sabean to replace Crashman.
Yankees don’t need to aquire another injured player. And one of the previous comments was corrected in taking some of those arms with Stanton and go get a real player like a Soto. Can’t watch another Bader trade and one of our pitchers flourishing else where and possibly going to the world series because the Yankees weren’t judging them with open eyes.
Another player who missed half the season w an injury is a very Cashman money. Yano bc he’s smarter than everyone else. It’s time to let it ride with the youth movement and get out from under the bloated contracts. I love ya LeMahieu but your time has passed. Stanton you’re a hoss in the playoffs but we gotta get there and you being oft-injured doesn’t help that cause. Rizzo is probably gonna retire
I just look at Atlanta, they let all their prospects progress and contribute. We trade all of ours either too soon or too late.
Jasson Dominguez is the next great Yankee. Don’t panic and trade for injury prone outfielder and give him a long term deal. Harper came back much earlier than everybody thought he would. So will Dominguez.
Love to see the Yankees bring Kyle Schwarber on board. A proven hitter and one hell of a player.
I think we have enough players that hit under .200
