Phenom Jasson Dominguez delivers another Yankees milestone, erasing doubts about his elite status.

The baseball world witnessed something extraordinary on Friday evening at Sutter Health Park. In an emphatic 10-2 victory for the Yankees against Oakland, 22-year-old phenomenon Jasson Dominguez scorched three baseballs over the fence, including a grand slam, while plating seven runs. This remarkable achievement established him as the youngest Yankee ever to accomplish a three-homer performance, leaving fans and critics alike searching for superlatives.

Dominguez achieved a Yankees milestone that eluded even franchise legends Babe Ruth and Aaron Judge. At 22 years old, Dominguez became just the second Yankee to accomplish this feat before age 23, following Joe DiMaggio (22 years, 200 days). Mickey Mantle managed it at 23, while Lou Gehrig waited until 24.

Remarkably, Ruth didn’t notch a three-homer regular season game until age 35 in 1930, though he’d accomplished it twice in World Series play. Judge, despite holding the AL single-season home run mark and countless multi-homer performances, hasn’t matched this particular achievement. This exclusive accomplishment places Dominguez among Yankees royalty in a category where even the sport’s greatest power hitters took years to reach or never achieved at all.

It was his second milestone for the Yankees after making his record debut in 2023. Dominguez has now joined Neil Walker (2018) as the latest switch-hitting Yankee to homer from both sides, marking his first multi-homer MLB performance.

Dominguez shines from both Batter’s boxes

The evening started quietly with a strikeout, hardly suggesting the offensive explosion to follow. By the third inning, however, Dominguez awakened dramatically, depositing a solo homer while batting left-handed against Osvaldo Bido. His contributions continued with a productive sacrifice fly in the fifth, demonstrating his ability to produce even without swinging for the fences.

The true spectacle unfolded later.

Switching to right-handed batting in the seventh, Dominguez demolished another solo blast against southpaw Hogan Harris. The crescendo arrived during the eighth inning. Facing MLB newcomer Elvis Alvarado with bases loaded, he crushed a 97.6 mph sinker that sailed majestically into the Yankees’ bullpen beyond right-center field — a grand slam that crowned an unforgettable evening.

Dominguez expressed disbelief after the game, admitting he couldn’t comprehend what was happening as the night unfolded. Yet it was happening, and it represented far more than individual achievement — it announced his arrival as a force throughout baseball.

Yankees history rewritten by the Martian

Aged merely 22 years and 91 days, Dominguez dethroned Joe DiMaggio (22 years, 200 days during 1937) to become the youngest Yankee to record three homers in one contest. MLB statistician Sarah Langs revealed he joined an exclusive fraternity as only the third player ever to homer from each side while completing a three-homer performance featuring a grand slam, matching Bill Mueller’s 2003 accomplishment.

“Tonight was special,” Dominguez said. “A very special night that I will remember.”

Potential finally unleashed

This offensive barrage dramatically transformed Dominguez’s season statistics, elevating his line from .231/.328/.365 to .250/.339/.463 through one remarkable game. Such instantaneous improvement rarely occurs, highlighting the immense talent that positioned Dominguez among baseball’s premier prospects since his teenage signing.

Before Friday’s outburst, Dominguez managed just two home runs across 31 appearances this campaign. Now possessing five, he increasingly resembles the superstar evaluators envisioned. Following his 2023 debut featuring four homers within seven games, UCL damage interrupted his inaugural season. Returning during 2024’s conclusion, he struggled, managing only .179.

Those difficulties now appear as preparation rather than regression.

“He’s so talented,” manager Aaron Boone said. “He just needs to play. It’s the experience with him.”

Ambidextrous excellence

Dominguez established himself as the Yankees’ first switch-hitter launching homers from both sides during a three-homer exhibition since Neil Walker accomplished it during 2018. This achievement demonstrates exceptional power alongside remarkable versatility — qualities the organization has cultivated throughout its development.

“One from the right side, two from the left side — that obviously doesn’t happen that often,” Boone noted. “It usually takes a pretty talented player to do something like that.”

Fellow players recognize this ability. Superstar Aaron Judge, who contributed an early double during the Yankees’ offensive barrage, enthusiastically celebrated each Dominguez circuit from the dugout.

“Three homers — it’s just special,” Judge said. “I think you saw the excitement in the whole dugout every time he rounded the bases.”

Breaking through struggles

Despite the Yankees collecting 14 hits while drawing six walks, Dominguez commanded attention. Each plate’s appearance progressively built anticipation, culminating in a display both statistically remarkable and symbolically momentous.

Previously, Dominguez faced considerable difficulties batting right-handed, managing merely 3-for-36 against lefties. A midweek double against Padres reliever Adrian Morejon hinted at improvement, but Friday’s performance confirmed his resurgence emphatically.

“I’ve been struggling from the right side,” Dominguez admitted recently. “Getting that hit obviously means a lot.”

Young teammate Ben Rice expressed admiration: “He’s got all the tools in the world. It’s fun to watch.”

Spring training saw veteran Cody Bellinger offer similar praise: “Man, the talent is through the roof,” Bellinger said. “The swing, both sides of the plate, it plays.”

Earning expanded opportunities

While adapting to left field following the Yankees‘ crowded outfield necessitated positional adjustment, Dominguez’s offensive surge demands increased playing time. Having started 31 of 38 contests with an OPS exceeding .800, his lineup presence seems guaranteed.

Questions persist regarding organizational plans. Will consistent starts follow? Do high-pressure situations feature him regularly? Friday’s breakthrough clarified one certainty: The Martian transcends prospect status — he’s arrived prepared for prominence.

Dominguez’s career performance transcended record-setting. It responded decisively to doubters questioning whether the promise would materialize into production. Additionally, it highlighted emerging Yankees stardom — potentially echoing legends like Mantle, DiMaggio, and perhaps eventually, Dominguez himself.
