Scott Boras, the “super-agent” for many of baseball’s top players, finalized Carlos Rodon’s contract with the Yankees while he was at Fenway Park for the debut of another one of his clients, Japanese outfielder Masataka Yoshida.
According to the Boston Globe, Boras and the Yankees worked out the last details of Rodon’s deal while Boras ate food from a buffet set up by the Red Sox.
Jon Heyman of The Post said that the Yankees and Rodon, who used to be a starting pitcher for the Giants and the White Sox, agreed to a six-year, $162 million deal on Thursday. Rodon is likely to be the second starting pitcher in the rotation, after Gerrit Cole, who is also represented by Boras.
Boras has had a very successful offseason. Several of his clients have gotten huge deals. After a short time with the Mets, Carlos Correa signed a 13-year, $350 million deal with the Giants this week. Xander Bogaerts, another of Boras’ clients, left the Red Sox after 10 years and signed an 11-year, $280 million deal with the Padres. This is in fact a “home run” that Michael Kay aptly described.
