Clarke Schmidt’s injury has dealt a significant blow to the New York Yankees’ pitching lineup, with reports suggesting he could be sidelined until September. According to MLB.com insider Bryan Hoch, Schmidt’s distress was evident upon learning the extent of his injury. Seeking guidance on his recovery, Schmidt reached out to Mets pitcher Louis Severino and his own teammate Gerrit Cole for advice.
Severino offers different advice for Clarke Schmidt to overcome the injury problem
Clarke Schmidt himself confirmed the news during an interview with NJ Media, stating, “We actually talked (Thursday) morning. Sevy and I have always kept in constant dialogue in-between starts. We talked this morning about the injury.”
Be that as it may, Clarke Schmidt revealed that Severino offered advice regarding this talk: “Nipping it in the bud and making sure it’s healed is the No. 1 thing.”
Additionally, Schmidt discussed his injury with rehabbing Yankees ace Gerrit Cole, who threw a live BP in Tampa on Thursday. “He’s had something similar with a lat in the past. A good bit of pitchers have reached out who’ve had similar injuries. It’s good to pick other guys’ brains and see what they went through and what helped them best.”
Yankees’ injury update on Clarke Schmidt
The announcement follows comments from Yankees manager Aaron Boone, who expressed concern over the MRI results, suggesting that Clarke Schmidt could be out of action until mid-August or early September.
Bryan Hoch speculates that even upon his return, Schmidt may need time to rebuild his stamina before rejoining the team on the field, possibly delaying his comeback until August.
“Considering that Schmidt would then have to build stamina before returning, it is likely that Schmidt will not see a big league mound again until at least August.” Stated Bryan Hoch.
However, Schmidt remains optimistic, refusing to accept a prolonged absence. Despite initial projections of a four-to-six-week recovery period, Schmidt aims to resume throwing within three to four weeks, eager to contribute to the team’s success once again.

Until they put Schmidt on the 60 day IL, nothing will stop him from start before July 1.
