Kyle Tucker’s name is heating up on the trade market, with the Yankees and Cubs emerging as potential suitors if the Astros decide to move their All-Star outfielder. Multiple reports, including those from Jon Heyman of The New York Post and Ari Alexander of KPRC 2, confirm interest from both clubs, sparking speculation about Tucker’s future in Houston.
Yankees and Cubs among teams eyeing Astros star Kyle Tucker

Astros general manager Dana Brown hinted at the possibility of trading Kyle Tucker or left-hander Framber Valdez to create financial flexibility. While no deal is imminent, Tucker’s blend of power, speed, and elite defense makes him a coveted target for teams seeking to bolster their rosters.
The Yankees, still reeling from Juan Soto’s decision to join the Mets, have a glaring hole in their outfield. Tucker, entering his final year of arbitration at a projected $15.8 million, offers a cost-effective and high-impact solution. Over the last four seasons, Tucker has posted 19.1 fWAR, ranking among baseball’s elite. His 2024 season was limited by a shin injury, but he still managed a stellar 180 wRC+ and 23 home runs in just 78 games.
Adding Tucker would allow the Yankees to reconfigure their outfield. Aaron Judge, who has anchored right field, could move back to his natural position in the post-Soto era, while Tucker’s versatility could see him transition to left field. This move would give New York a formidable defensive alignment and bolster their lineup with Tucker’s consistent offensive production.
For the Cubs, Tucker represents an opportunity to add a proven star to their mix of emerging talent. Although their outfield is currently crowded, players like Cody Bellinger and Seiya Suzuki have been mentioned in trade rumors, suggesting the team may be open to reconfiguring its roster to accommodate Tucker.
The Astros are under no obligation to trade Tucker, but financial pressures loom large. With Alex Bregman’s extension reportedly a top priority, moving Tucker could clear payroll space and bring back a haul of young talent akin to what the Padres received for Juan Soto last offseason. Such a deal would maintain Houston’s competitiveness while addressing long-term needs.
While Tucker’s availability remains speculative, his name has quickly become one of the offseason’s most intriguing. The Yankees and Cubs are expected to be active participants in trade discussions, but competition will likely include other contenders eager to land one of the game’s premier talents.
