Yankees fans looking for more action from the team’s top prospects are in for a treat. Following reports on Monday night that the Yankees are promoting outfielder Everson Pereira (ranked as the Yankees’ No. 3 prospect by MLB Pipeline) and infielder Oswald Peraza (last season’s No. 2 prospect), manager Aaron Boone confirmed their inclusion in a statement to the Talkin’ Yanks podcast team, stating that both players would “see considerable playtime.”

Boone, who typically conducts remote interviews, unusually appeared in person for the interview. He mentioned that Pereira is set to start in left field against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night. Additionally, he indicated that Peraza will primarily play third base, while also potentially taking on roles at shortstop and second base on days when Anthony Volpe and Gleyber Torres are not starting.

With some previous experience in the major leagues, Peraza, aged 23, has participated in 18 games in 2022 and 19 games this season, filling in for injured players. His overall performance includes a .238/.364/.307 slash line, one home run, eight RBI, and five runs scored.

Pereira, will be making his MLB debut on Tuesday. His five-year tenure in the Yankees’ system showcases a .279/.353/.501 slash line, along with 56 home runs and 205 RBI.

Yankees’ Youth Movement: Pereira and Peraza up for promotion in bid to reignite team

Earlier, to revitalize their struggling roster, the New York Yankees made moves to promote outfield prospect Everson Pereira and infielder Oswald Peraza. According to reports from Jack Curry of the YES Network, Pereira is set to make his major league debut, while Peraza is being recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Pereira, aged 22 and hailing from Venezuela, has garnered attention as a standout prospect since the 2017-18 international signing class. Despite not possessing flashy attributes, Pereira’s advanced offensive skills and potential as a center fielder secured him a $1.5 million bonus. With a track record of consistent performance across minor league levels, he is expected to bring fresh energy to the Yankees’ lineup.

Peraza, on the other hand, has displayed his prowess as a highly-regarded prospect with impressive numbers in Triple-A this season. Although his MLB appearances this year have been sporadic, his promising debut in 2022 showcases his potential impact.

Both players are part of the 40-man roster, facilitating a smooth transition with corresponding active roster transactions. The promotions come as the Yankees grapple with an eight-game losing streak and a disappointing 60-64 record, facing the possibility of missing the postseason for the first time in seven years.

The introductions of Pereira and Peraza are not only aimed at boosting the team’s immediate performance but also at evaluating their potential for the 2024 roster. Their inclusion reflects the Yankees’ efforts to infuse youthful talent and energy during a challenging period.
