Pereira, aged 22 and hailing from Venezuela, has garnered attention as a standout prospect since the 2017-18 international signing class. Despite not possessing flashy attributes, Pereira’s advanced offensive skills and potential as a center fielder secured him a $1.5 million bonus. With a track record of consistent performance across minor league levels, he is expected to bring fresh energy to the Yankees’ lineup.

Peraza, on the other hand, has displayed his prowess as a highly-regarded prospect with impressive numbers in Triple-A this season. Although his MLB appearances this year have been sporadic, his promising debut in 2022 showcases his potential impact.

Both players are part of the 40-man roster, facilitating a smooth transition with corresponding active roster transactions. The promotions come as the Yankees grapple with an eight-game losing streak and a disappointing 60-64 record, facing the possibility of missing the postseason for the first time in seven years.

The introductions of Pereira and Peraza are not only aimed at boosting the team’s immediate performance but also at evaluating their potential for the 2024 roster. Their inclusion reflects the Yankees’ efforts to infuse youthful talent and energy during a challenging period.
