New York Yankees 8-7 Texas Rangers
The New York Yankees survived a late-game bullpen scare, narrowly defeating the Texas Rangers 8-7 on Sunday, thanks to four home runs that powered them to victory in The Bronx.
How it happened
Juan Soto led the charge with two homers, while Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton each added long balls to help the Yankees build an 8-3 lead. However, the game nearly slipped away after Mark Leiter Jr. allowed three runs in the eighth, and closer Clay Holmes struggled through a 45-pitch save, giving up a run in the ninth before securing the win.
Stroman, who had been working on his mechanics after consecutive rough outings, was effective for the Yankees, holding Texas scoreless into the sixth inning. He allowed one earned run, three walks, and struck out five before being replaced by Jake Cousins after giving up a run-scoring double to Corey Seager.
Stanton’s three-run homer in the fifth inning followed a rally that saw the Yankees capitalize on a pair of singles and an intentional walk to Judge. Soto and Judge later hit back-to-back homers in the seventh to extend the lead to 8-3.
Despite a late error by third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. that allowed two runs to score, the Yankees managed to hold off the Rangers’ comeback attempt. Holmes, who allowed three consecutive baserunners with two outs in the ninth, got Leody Taveras to ground out to end the game.
With the win, the Yankees continue to chase the AL East title, but questions remain about their bullpen’s reliability.
