New York Yankees 6-0 Cleveland Guardians
The New York Yankees secured a 6-0 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Thursday, powered by a stellar pitching performance from Gerrit Cole and a key home run by Aaron Judge. The win, witnessed by 38,105 fans at Yankee Stadium, marked the Yankees’ 15th win in their last 23 games.
Yankees blank Guardians behind Cole’s gem
Gerrit Cole, the Yankees’ ace, led the way by allowing just one hit over six scoreless innings. Although he issued five walks, Cole managed to escape trouble, holding Cleveland to a mere 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. His performance extended his streak of strong outings, as he has now allowed just three earned runs over his last 23 innings, lowering his ERA to 3.72.
Aaron Judge continued his remarkable season, delivering his 48th home run in the fourth inning, a solo shot that opened the scoring. Judge’s blast was all the Yankees would need, as Cleveland’s offense was stifled throughout the game. Judge has been on a tear, hitting homers in three consecutive games and seven in his last 10. His current 10-game hitting streak has seen him go 17-for-37 (.460) with 13 RBIs.
Yankees add insurance runs
The Yankees added to their lead in the fifth inning, capitalizing on Guardians reliever Nick Sandlin. After Judge was intentionally walked to load the bases, Austin Wells delivered a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0. Giancarlo Stanton then broke the game open with a three-run homer, a 417-foot shot to center, giving the Yankees a comfortable five-run cushion.
The Yankees bullpen maintained the shutout after Cole’s departure. Tim Hill, Luke Weaver, and Michael Tonkin combined to keep the Guardians hitless over the final three innings, securing the one-hit shutout.
