What is new in the Yankees 2023 schedule

  • The Yankees will play a series against each of the other 29 Major League Baseball teams for the first time ever. For the first time in baseball history, all 30 teams will play a series against each other. Star players from the other league will pay a visit to the city’s home ballpark every other year. The idea is that this will get more fans interested. Manny Machado and Juan Soto, two of the best players in the San Diego Padres, will play at Yankee Stadium in May.
  • The number of games that MLB clubs will play against teams from the same division will be dramatically reduced. In 2022, the clubs faced their division opponents in 76 of their 162 games. In 2023, it will fall to 52.
  • The Yankees 2023 schedule is going to help the team. The Yankees play in the American League East, which is a very tough division. Four of the five teams in the division had a winning record at the end of 2022. This season, all five teams want to do well.
  • The bad thing about the Yankees 2023 schedule is that rival teams will play each other less. The Yankees and the Red Sox used to play each other at least 18 times during the regular season. They’ll play each other 13 times this season, and their last series will be in the middle of September.
  • On the other hand, the schedule requires that all teams play each other at least once a season. In 2023, the number of games between National League and American League teams will go from 20 per team to 46.
  • Several teams will be affected by the new rules. Last year, the New York Yankees were the second-best team in the AL. But they were especially good against teams in their own division, the AL East. The Yankees had a 47-29 record against teams in the AL East. They hit 106 home runs and scored a total of 351 runs. There was no doubt that they were the best team in their group.
  • Struggling opponents like the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles, whom the Yankees faced 19 times apiece last season, will be reduced in the lineup. The Yankees 2023 schedule, like all other clubs’, will expose them to a more diverse skill set throughout the MLB’s two leagues.
  • The new schedule is meant to break up teams that aren’t very good but still make it to the playoffs because they play in a weak division. Even though the Yankees aren’t a bad team, they will get to see a wider range of skills because they will play more teams less often. Maybe the Yankees 2023 schedule will show us who the real powerhouses are in MLB.

Key games to watch in the Yankees 2023 schedule

Opening Day vs the Giants

The Giants will be making their first trip to the Bronx to play the Yankees since 2016. This will be the first time they have played in the Bronx since 2016. On March 30, both teams, along with the rest of Major League Baseball, will celebrate Opening Day. Following the festivities, there will be a typical day off. The opening series in New York will pick back up on April 1 and continue until April 2, when it will be over.

The fight over Aaron Judge during the offseason makes will add an aura of rivalry to this game that sets in motion the Yankees 2023 schedule.

April 19-20 vs. the Angels

The series is going to be the test of two best players in the MLB, Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani and is likely to give fans the most entertaining individual performance in the Yankees 2023 schedule.

May 26-28 vs. the Padres

A young and exciting Padres team is a delight to watch against the star power of the Yankees. Because San Diego is home to a number of notable athletes, it is likely that this series will feature a significant amount of powerful competition. Fans may find this series the most exciting in the Yankees 2023 schedule.

June 2-4 vs. the Dodgers

Lou Gehrig Day on June 2 is a special moment in the Yankees 2023 schedule. In connection with the topic of star power, it is equally important. The Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Yankees have been two of the best teams in baseball in 2022; it is possible that they will play each other in the World Series this year before meeting again the following year.

June 9-11 vs. The Red Sox

The Yankees vs Red Sox rivalry reignites on June 2. The first series between the Yankees and the Red Sox will be played at Yankee Stadium. Both teams are bitter rivals and each of their games in the Yankees 2023 schedule will be keenly watched. However, New York won’t have to wait too long before going to Fenway Park. The competition will take place in Boston from June 16-18.

June 13-14 first subway series

The Yankees and the Mets will play a total of four games in this year’s edition of the Subway Series of the Yankees 2023 schedule. The first two will be played at Citi Field in the month of June.

July 25-26 second subway series

The cross-town rivalry returns to New York City with the two-game series played at Yankee Stadium in late July.

August 3-6 vs the Astros

It will be the most keenly awaited series in the Yankees 2023 schedule. During the offseason, the Yankees’ preparation for the 2023 season was widely seen and compared to how far they could go to beat the Astros, who knocked them out of the ALCS in 2022. When the Astros will come to town at the beginning of August, the bitter rivalry is going to resurface.

Key features of the Yankees 2023 schedule

  • According to the Yankees 2023 schedule, the month of April won’t feature a lot of action in the AL East for the Yankees. In April, they only face opponents from the AL East in two different series. On April 6th through 8th, they will play their first game in their division, which will be against the lowly Baltimore Orioles. After that, the home series against Toronto from April 21st through 23rd is the only other indication that the divisional rivals will be present during the first month of the season.
  • The Yankees 2023 schedule puts them through through some challenging divisional matches. They will be competing against the Rays at the Trop from the 5th through the 7th of May. Following that series, Oakland will stop by. However, as soon as the lowly Athletics leave, the Rays will arrive in the Bronx for a four-game set, and then the Bombers will immediately head north for a set of four games up in Canada. 14 games in 14 days, 11 of which were played against Tampa and Toronto combined. Buckle up.
  • The Yankees schedule for 2023 included an All-Star break that occurred before and after their sweep of the West Coast. The Yankees will be on the road to the west coast beginning May 29 and continuing through June 4. After securing their spot in the playoffs for the first time in twenty years, the Seattle Mariners are the first team on the schedule. The Mariners are expected to compete for a playoff spot in the American League this season. After that, the Yankees will travel to Los Angeles to play a game against the Dodgers. Despite the fact that the latter appears to be less formidable than in previous years, that is still a challenging matchup. They will be in Seattle for the second stop of their West Coast jaunt right after the All-Star break. To begin, they will spend the weekend in Denver. After playing in Denver, they will continue west to take on the other Los Angeles team, where they will compete against Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, two of Judge’s peers who are perennial candidates for MVP.
  • The Yankees 2023 schedule includes several big days, which should make it easier to forget the difficult month of August 2022. The Yankees and the Astros will play each other in the first game of that month. The New York Yankees will play their first game after the trade deadline against the Tampa Bay Rays. This series will take place in the Bronx from July 31st through August 2nd. But as soon as they leave, the Astros will arrive in town to take their place. And after 2022, when Houston kicked the Yankees in the teeth on multiple occasions, it is imperative for the Yankees to demonstrate that they will not be bullied by Houston again. This set of four games could end up being really good or really bad. There’s no telling.
  • The Yankees 2023 schedule allows the men in pinstripes another chance against the Astros at the beginning of September. This gives the pinstripers another opportunity to win. The Bombers have one final chance during the regular season to hand the Astros a beating, and by doing so, they can hopefully set themselves up for a successful run in the postseason.
  • According to the Yankees 2023 schedule, the final divisional series will be played against the Blue Jays. However, two of the final four series of games, including the penultimate one, are against a club that should be one of the Yankees’ competitors for an AL East title. The final series of the season is actually played in Kansas City, but two of the final four series of games are against the Royals. In the month of September, New York will play host to Toronto from the 19th through the 21st, and then will travel to the Rogers Centre to play there from the 26th through the 28th.
