New York Yankees fans are buzzing with speculation about whether a World Series title could persuade Juan Soto to offer the team a discount to stay in the Bronx. With Soto’s free agency looming after a historic season, the conversation has intensified. As the 25-year-old outfielder continues to break records, many wonder if a championship could influence his decision—though skepticism abounds.

Would Juan Soto offer the Yankees a discount?

Juan Soto’s agent, Scott Boras, has a reputation for securing massive contracts, and fans expect his next deal to exceed $500 million. As one fan, @NjGuy51, put it on X.com (formerly known as Twitter): “Will Soto take a discount if the Yanks win the WS to return? No! And why should he? He’s a FA and the market will be unbelievable for him. The Yankees need him more than he needs them.”

No! And why should he? He’s a FA and the market will be unbelievable for him. The Yankees will need to match or exceed the market. The Yankees need him more than
he needs them.

While a small contingent of fans hold out hope that a title might sway Juan Soto, the idea of him taking less money is widely doubted. “No chance,” tweeted @mleonardi12. “He’ll be coming off a career year and a World Series win at age 25. He’s not taking a discount from anyone.” This sentiment echoes throughout the fan base, as many acknowledge that the star outfielder’s value is only increasing.

No chance. He will be coming off a career year and World Series at age 25. He’s not taking a discount from anyone but that’s a problem for another day

Why should Soto take a discount? If the Yanks win the WS they will get a boost in ticket sales for years. Even without a WS win the Yanks can afford anyone and need to pony up.

Still, some see a path, albeit narrow, for the Yankees. “Maybe a small discount, like $5 million,” speculated @Shinuto5. “I think he wants to stay here, but he knows Hal will have to pay up.” The partnership between Soto and Aaron Judge, who have combined for 93 home runs this season, has fans hoping the Yankees will do whatever it takes to keep him.

Maybe like $5 mil or something significantly small like that.

I think he wants to stay here, but he also knows Hal is one of the best people to pay him.

— A Ross 94 (@Shinuto5) September 18, 2024

Yet for others, like @NYYBrooklyn, a World Series win could drive Juan Soto’s price higher, not lower. “If they win, his price will only go up,” they tweeted, suggesting that success might backfire on the Yankees’ ability to retain him. Even with potential endorsement deals adding to his earnings in New York, the uncertainty around Soto’s future remains a hot topic among the fan base.

Ultimately, the question of whether Juan Soto will take a discount boils down to the business side of baseball. As @ScottyUncle noted: “Yes, but not much of one. Hal better not get cheap on him.”

Can the Yankees keep Juan Soto?

With the Yankees in the mix for their first title since 2009, fans are hungry for a championship, and Soto is seen as a key to their success. The excitement around him has only grown, especially after he became one of the few players to hit a home run in every major league ballpark.

“So many different ballparks, so many different dimensions,” Soto said after hitting his 220th career homer in the Yankees’ win over the Mariners. “I just want to check all of them off.” His versatility at the plate makes him invaluable, but it also highlights the challenge of keeping him in New York.

Despite optimism about a potential World Series run, uncertainty about Juan Soto’s future is looming. Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner has already tempered expectations, indicating that the team won’t engage in a bidding war. With estimates of Juan Soto’s next contract reaching $500 million, even a championship may not be enough to convince him to give the Yankees a discount.

The financial hurdles are significant, but fans still hope that Juan Soto’s connection with Aaron Judge and the Yankees’ winning tradition could lead to a more favorable outcome. Soto and Judge have formed a powerful tandem, making history as just the third pair of Yankees teammates to hit 40 home runs in the same season.

As the Yankees focus on a deep postseason run, the speculation around Soto’s future will only grow. Whether he stays or leaves, fans are savoring his time in pinstripes, with hopes that a World Series win might tilt the balance in their favor.
