Luis Severino has had a tough season so far; however, during the recent Yankees’ loss to the Brewers, the player suffered pain while he was pitching, which could result in a melancholic end to the season.

The New York Yankees‘ 2023 season appears to be heading towards a disappointing end, and their recent 8-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers only added to their struggles. The game also brought unfortunate news for pitcher Luis Severino, who left the match early with a left-side injury, potentially signaling the end of his season and raising questions about his future with the Yankees. After the game, manager Aaron Boone said that it was on the last pitch that Severino experienced pain and took the opportunity to mention that they will see what the future holds for Severino tomorrow.

“He’s just in a lot of pain and still is. So just on his side here, and he will get the image and stuff tomorrow. But still in quite a bit of pain,” said Aaron Boone in the post-game interview.

“Throughout the pitch, you can see, and look at him out there. Never want to see that, obviously. He’s been through a lot, so we will see what he has and try to get around it.”

Luis Severino‘s night took a painful turn in the top of the fifth inning when he allowed a leadoff single to Brice Turang. As the play unfolded, Severino dropped his glove, clearly in discomfort. The Yankees’ training staff quickly rushed to his side, leading to his removal from the game. Jhony Brito took the mound in his place, and the Yankees announced that Severino would undergo further testing on Saturday to assess the extent of his injury.

This injury is a significant blow to Luis Severino, who had been hoping to finish a challenging season on a positive note. In the third inning, he had already allowed a two-run homer to Willy Adames. Severino’s struggles this season have been evident, and his performance in this game left him with a 6.65 ERA, far from his best.

In an interview with the Yes Network, Luis Severino discussed the intense discomfort he experienced. He mentioned that an unexpected shout caught his attention, leaving him uncertain about the outcome and caught off guard by the ensuing pain that he still felt.

The timing of Luis Severino’s injury is particularly unfortunate as he is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. Injuries have plagued Severino since 2019, derailing what was once a promising career. Even before this latest setback, it was unclear what kind of market would exist for him in the upcoming offseason. With this new injury, the outlook becomes even murkier, and Severino’s future with the Yankees and in the league as a whole hangs in the balance.

Luis Severino’s early exit and the Yankees’ subsequent unraveling in the game, marked by three sloppy plays in the field that led to three runs in the seventh inning and three more in the eighth, underscored the team’s struggles this season. After a brief winning streak, the Yankees have now lost two consecutive games and face an uphill battle against the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers in their upcoming matchups.

In a season filled with disappointments for the Yankees, Luis Severino’s injury adds another layer of uncertainty to the team’s future and raises questions about the once-promising pitcher’s career path. As the season winds down, both Severino and the Yankees will have important decisions to make about what comes next.

I think the Yankees let Severino walk and see if Michael King can get stretched out as a starter. That would leave, Cole, Cortes, Rodon, King. They’ll have to look for a fifth starter.
