The way Yankees pitcher Tommy Kahnle vented his ire in the dugout following his performance against the Angels, it soon became a sensation on Wednesday. However, the Yankees fans are not surprised to see such a reaction from a player, as they themselves are feeling the heat and frustrated as the team is going downhill.
Tommy Kahnle showed frustration with himself as he gave up a run in the eighth inning during the Yankees’ 7-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. Upon returning to the dugout, he forcefully threw his glove toward the back of the visiting dugout, inadvertently knocking over a cooling fan in the process. In a fit of rage, he vented his anger further by stomping on the fallen fan before walking away.
Subsequently, a camera captured Manager Aaron Boone sitting down to have a conversation with Tommy Kahnle after the reliever gave up the run on a hit and two walks at Angel Stadium.
Tommy Kahnle’s rage is evident as the Yankees are on a losing spree
The apparent frustration in the Yankees clubhouse was undeniable, as evidenced by Tommy Kahnle’s demeanor and a dugout fan. They are on a losing spree to teams, which are themselves languishing on the abysm of their divisions.
The Yankees manager told that he had a conversation with Tommy Kahnle about the inning and ensuring they were in a good position. Boone clarified that their discussion was private and not related to any external factors.
Tommy Kahnle’s visible frustration occurred during his third consecutive outing in which he allowed a run to the opposing team. After recovering from biceps tendonitis, he began the 2023 season with 16 straight innings without allowing a run. However, his performance has taken a turn, mirroring the struggles of the Yankees’ season.
Boone stated that different players have varying ways of expressing their emotions on the field. He mentioned that he used to throw his helmet or get angry, but he acknowledged that it’s not the same for everyone. The important thing, according to the Yankees manager, is to be genuine and true to oneself. He understands that all the players care deeply about the game, and sometimes, when facing challenges, emotions may come out in different ways. However, Boone also emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism and not crossing any lines. Ultimately, each player reacts differently in various situations.
The Yankees’ defeat marked their fourth consecutive loss and the first time the Angels had swept them since July 2009. Along with Tommy Kahnle, other pitchers also showed their frustration in the defeat as their collective ERA rose to 2.50.
In the earlier innings of the game, Carlos Rodon responded to the upset Yankees fans in Anaheim by blowing them a kiss after conceding home runs in both the first two innings. Boone acknowledged the team’s current difficulties while they find themselves at the bottom of the American League East.
He said that the team acknowledged their position and the failure to perform well at the moment pushing them to the low point.
“Acknowledge where we are, which is we’re not very good right now,” he said, “We understand that and certainly this is a low point for us.”
