Can the Yankees Rebound on Their Trip West?

The New York Yankees will face the Seattle Mariners in the first game of their series on Monday night at T-Mobile Park. The New York Yankees have lost five straight games and are 70-39 on the season. New York recently suffered a series of defeats to St. Louis, dropping all three games. This season, New York’s pitching staff has a 3.

33 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and a .219 opponents’ batting average.

The offense of the New York Yankees has 579 runs scored while batting .246 and securing bases at a .331 clip. Aaron Judge is batting .301 for the Yankees this season, with 43 home runs and 97 RBI. New York is expected to start Jameson Taillon, who has a 10-2 record this year while pitching 113.2 innings with a 3.96 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP.

This is the fourth meeting between these two teams this season.

Monday’s matchup pits Jameson Taillon against Logan Gilbert (10:10 PM ET)

Taillon will get the ball first in a rematch of last week’s series in New York. He pitched 4.2 innings and allowed six runs (five of which were earned).

Tuesday’s matchup pits Gerrit Cole against Luis Castillo (10:10 PM ET)

Cole will look to improve on a disastrous start his last time out in another rematch. The Mariners battered the ace for six runs on three home runs in the first inning, effectively ending the Yankees’ chances before they even got to bat.

Wednesday matchup pits Nestor Cortes against Robbie Ray (4:10 PM ET)

Cortes, the lone pitching battle we didn’t see when these two first met, will look to keep his good run going in Seattle. Cortes has rebounded from a late-May/June slump, posting a 1.93 ERA in 23.1 innings over his last four starts.

Michael King, Giancarlo Stanton, Miguel Castro, Luis Severino, Chad Green, Zack Britton, Stephen Ridings, Harrison Bader are all out with injuries for the New York Yankees.

The New York Yankees will face the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, August 8 at 10:10 p.m. ET at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington.
