Spencer Jones, the New York Yankees‘ 2022 first-round draft pick, was promoted on Tuesday… after only three games in rookie ball.
Jones, the 25th overall pick out of Vanderbilt, went five-for-ten with a HR and 4 RBI in those 3 games.
The outfielder was quickly promoted to Low-A Tampa Tarpons as a result of his performance.
Jones batted 0 for 4 and struck out twice in Tampa’s game against Dunedin on Tuesday.
Already, the 21-year-old has been compared to Aaron Judge.
MLB Pipeline has a scouting report on Jones:
Jones has the ability to hit for average while also producing solid power, but against non-fastballs he frequently swings and misses. Though his 6-foot-7 frame generates a lot of bat speed as well as impressive strength and leverage. He almost exclusively uses the opposite field, and there are doubts about his ability to handle quality fastballs. Out of the batter’s box, he has average bat speed, but he gets going quickly and has the ability to steal bases.
