On Monday, former George Washington pitcher Harrison Cohen confirmed that he had signed a free agent contract with the New York Yankees. Cohen had previously played for the Colonials.
Cohen, who grew up in Syosset, N.Y., as a huge Yankees fan, signed a contract with the team on Sunday at their spring training complex in Tampa. He will now be able to play for the team he grew up loving.
Cohen, a five-year member of the GW baseball team, was named to the A-10 Second Team. GW’s Friday night starter finished the year with seven wins and a 3.92 ERA. Cohen ranked in the top 10 in five conference pitching categories, including innings pitched and strikeouts (93).
In addition, Cohen finishes his career at GW ranked 18th all-time in strikeouts for a pitcher with 201 and 19th in wins for a pitcher (14).
Cohen is the second GW baseball player to sign this year. Cade Fergus was drafted by the Phillies in July.
