The New York Yankees will face the St. Louis Cardinals in MLB action on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at 2:15 PM ET in Busch Stadium, MO.
As injuries mount, the Yankees suffer their first setback in an otherwise perfect season. In the last week, the Yankees placed three pitchers on the 60-day disabled list, including starter Luis Severino and key reliever Michael King.
Giancarlo Stanton, the Yankees’ all-star outfielder, is also out while recovering from an achilles injury. The Cardinals defeated the Yankees 4-3 in extra innings on Friday night.
Clay Holmes blew his second save in two weeks in the eighth inning, allowing two singles and two runs to cross the plate. On Saturday night, the team managed only two hits and was defeated 1-0 by the Cardinals, their fourth straight loss and second straight setback.
On Sunday, the Yankees will get their first look at Frankie Montas, who they believe can significantly improve their starting rotation.
Montas has only won three of his nine appearances for the Oakland A’s this season, and he is also coming off an injury-plagued month of August in which he only made three starts.
INJURIES: Anthony Rizzo (back), Harrison Bader (foot), Luis Severino (lat), Miguel Castro (shoulder), Giancarlo Stanton (achilles), Michael King (elbow), Chad Green (elbow), Stephen Ridings (shoulder), Zack Britton (shoulder) (elbow)
