New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays: Jameson Taillon vs. Kevin Gausman
After yesterday’s win, the Blue Jays will play the Yankees in the Bronx tonight. The standard time for today’s game is 7:05 AM ET.
New York is 73-46 overall and 42-18 at home. At .326, the Yankees have the best percentage of runners on base in the AL. This Friday is the 14th time this season that the teams have met. The season series is 8-5 in favor of the Yankees.
This is Jameson Taillon‘s 24th start for the Yankees this season. He is 11-3 with a 3.95 ERA and a 4.02 FIP after 127.2 innings. This year, he has done a great job of keeping walks to just 1.69 per 9 innings, which is one of the best rates in the majors. But he has been pushed around a bit when it comes to home runs. His 19 home runs put him and Yusei Kikuchi tied for 14th in the majors. And this year, Taillon has only struck out 108 batters in 127.2 innings.
Taillon is looking forward to his fifth matchup against the Blue Jays this season. In a total of 22 innings, the Jays have only scored 5 runs off of his 20 hits, 3 walks, and 22 hits. In game 4 of the season, he let George Springer hit a two-run home run.
After missing four games with a toe injury, DJ LeMahieu started. He seemed unaffected, collecting two hits in the leadoff spot.
Yesterday was the fourth time in 13 games that Blue Jays pitchers failed to hold Aaron Judge. Jays pitchers have kept him at .241/.305/.482 and hit him 17 times in 59 plate appearances.
Oswaldo Cabrera, who had just made his debut in the major leagues the day before, got his first hits the day after that. The Yankees could use him to limit Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s plate appearances.
INJURIES: Clay Holmes, Matt Carpenter, Harrison Bader, Luis Severino, Miguel Castro, Giancarlo Stanton, Michael King, Chad Green, Stephen Ridings, and Zack Britton.
