San Francisco media may spoil Giants’ Aaron Judge party

The San Francisco media could wreck a deal between the Giants and Aaron Judge. The media in New York is rough, but they haven’t done anything like this that may force the Yankees’ biggest star ever to reconsider his association with the city.

MLB insider Jon Heyman took the time to write that Samantha Judge’s participation in the New York City Marathon was a “good sign” that Aaron Judge would stay with the Yankees. The media in San Francisco responded with a snarky 100-word column.

Was this even long enough to be a column, since half of it was a block quote from Heyman’s article? Look, the media in New York is rough, but they don’t do things like this.

The SFGate article screamed in its headline “I really hope Aaron Judge’s wife didn’t run a marathon as a decoy.” Heyman’s inside information was talked about in such a condescending way that it was actually impressive. But it’s not too much of a stretch for a Yankees executive to wonder if this helped Aaron Judge’s case to stay with the Yankees. The most attention went to Aaron Judge’s free agency will get as much attention as anyone’s in recent memory.

However, Judge might want to think twice before going home, since there’s nothing to suggest that this kind of strange coverage will stop once he gets to the Bay Area. The San Francisco media went on to discuss how did Samantha painfully run the marathon? She finished in 4 hours and 12 minutes, which means that she took 9:36 per mile, on average. Pretty damn good for someone who isn’t a professional runner but wants to win the New York City marathon. The power hitter was there to cheer and hug her when she completed the run. That really is the best thing fans see ever see anywhere.

How can we argue so much about something that is so small and doesn’t matter?

Farhan Zaidi, the president of baseball operations for the Giants, said this week that no free agent would be ruled out of the team’s ability to sign them if they both wanted to. The hint was to outbid competitors for Aaron Judge.

If Judge’s possible interest in the Giants has waned in any way, SFGate might have to fall on the sword.
