The New York Yankees struggled to recover from the early setbacks caused by Carlos Rodon, resulting in a 5-3 loss to the Rays on Tuesday night. Not only were fans frustrated with Rodon’s performance during the game, but journalists also voiced their concerns.
Carlos Rodon vs. Rays
According to Chris Kirschner of The Athletic, Carlos Rodon’s season ERA has now climbed to 4.63, ranking as the third-worst among pitchers with at least 100 innings pitched. Rich Eisen, former NFL broadcaster and ESPN presenter, expressed strong opinions about Rodon’s recent struggles.
Carlos Rodon’s outing was marred by significant challenges: 4 innings pitched, 5 hits, 4 earned runs, 2 walks, 5 strikeouts, and 1 home run allowed. He threw 95 pitches, 55 of them strikes.
How it happened
Carlos Rodon’s performance against the Yankees was disastrous from the start. Despite being given an early 1-0 lead, the left-hander faltered in the opening frame, conceding four runs. A double by Randy Arozarena and an error by Alex Verdugo contributed to the tying run, followed by a three-run homer by Isaac Paredes that put the Rays ahead 4-1 before Rodon could recover.
Although Carlos Rodon settled down afterward, his rough first inning sealed New York’s fate for the game. In total, he allowed four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five over his four innings of work.
In his last three starts, Carlos Rodon has surrendered 15 runs in 14.1 innings, raising questions about his current form and effectiveness.
