No captain’s patch for Aaron Judge in 2023

Aaron Judge is officially the Yankees captain but he is not going to wear the patch declaring him as the team’s captain on his uniform in 2023, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

During MLB free agency, Aaron Judge was linked to teams like the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres. But in the end, the big hitter signed a 9-year, $360 million deal to stay with the Yankees and was named their captain, the first since Derek Jeter. He is the team’s face, and he wants to get the Yankees back to the World Series as soon as possible.

During Aaron Judge’s coronation ceremony as the Yankees captain, the slugger, when pointed out the missing “C” on his jersey, laughed and told, “No, we don’t do that here.”

It’s a huge honor to be named captain of the New York Yankees. The last player to hold the title was Derek Jeter. Don Mattingly and Thurman Munson are two other legends who have led the team as captain. None of them had the captain patch on their uniforms.

Explaining this in 2008, Jeter had said:

“I’m no different than anyone else on the team. I understand that I have that title. I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with anybody that’s wearing it, but for me, it was never an issue.”

Still, the Yankees love Aaron Judge’s personality and everything he stands for. He has shown that he is a good leader, and his Yankees teammates even pushed for him to be made captain. Jeter is hopeful that the new captain can lead the team with his winning mindset.

Aaron Judge wants 2023 to be another big year for him. Last year, the Yankees made it to the playoffs, but this team is hungry for their first World Series win since 2009.

Even though he won’t wear the captain’s patch on his uniform, no one can deny that Aaron Judge is the team captain.

No Captain patch needed. This why I will always be a Yankee fan. They have created a culture that has been lost in sports today. No accessories needed and everyone follows the company line or your out. From Munson to Jeter and now Judge, it is important to their brand and they will always be who they are. Individuals with big egos and all the accessories can fall in line or stay away. Aaron Judge is what makes the game of baseball great. Spring training is approaching and true Yankee fans will be ready to watch our team take the field.
