The Yankees will host the Rays to start a three-game series

New York Yankees (83-55), who are in first place in the American League East, take on the Tampa Bay Rays (77-58, second in the AL East).

Time: Friday, 7:05 p.m. EDT, New York

The New York Yankees will host the Tampa Bay Rays for three games starting on Friday.

The overall record for New York is 83-55, and they are 48-21 at home. The Yankees have a total of 214 home runs, good for a league-leading average of 1.6 home runs per game.

Tampa Bay’s overall record is 77-58, and their road record is 30-34. The Rays pitchers have a combined ERA of 3.25, which is the second best in the AL.

This will be the 17th time this season that the two teams face each other. The Yankees currently hold a lead in the season series, 9-7.

The Yankees will start the series with Frankie Montas (5-11, 3.79 ERA), and they are hoping he can repeat the outstanding performance he had on Sunday. Since being acquired from the Oakland Athletics, Montas has made six starts and has a record of 1-2 with an earned run average of 5.87. When he pitched against the Rays and only allowed one hit while going five innings without allowing a run, he earned his first victory with the Yankees.

In seven career appearances (six starts) against Tampa Bay, Montas has a record of 3-1 with an ERA of 1.63. In three starts against the Rays so far this season, Montas has a record of 2-0 with an ERA of 0.49.

Aaron Judge, who plays for the Yankees, leads the majors with 55 home runs, 86 walks, and 118 RBI while hitting .302 at the plate. Over the course of the last ten games, Isiah Kiner-Falefa has gone 11 for 32 at the plate with two doubles, two home runs, and six RBI.

Stanton might be able to come back Friday, but even if he does, the Yankees hope to get more help from players like Miguel Andujar, who hit a two-run homer after being added to the roster earlier Thursday.
He came in to replace DJ LeMahieu, who had been on the injured list since mid-August because of a toe injury.

In their last 10 games, the Yankees have a record of 5-5, a batting average of .195, an earned run average of 2.93, and they have outscored opponents by one run.

INJURIES: DJ LeMahieu, Anthony Rizzo, Luis Gil, Andrew Benintendi, Aroldis Chapman, Harrison Bader, Scott Effross, Albert Abreu, Matt Carpenter, Luis Severino, Miguel Castro, Michael King, Chad Green, Stephen Ridings, and Zack Britton.
