Yankees will look to keep win streak going against the Brewers

The New York Yankees are currently in first place in the American League East with an 87-56 record. They will take on the Milwaukee Brewers (76-67, second in the NL Central)

Time: 8:10 p.m. EDT on Friday in Milwaukee

Frankie Montas (5-12, 3.89 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 140 strikeouts) is the likely starter for the Yankees, while Adrian Houser (6-9, 4.61 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 65 strikeouts) will take the mound for the Brewers.

The New York Yankees travel to Milwaukee in the hopes of extending a winning streak on the road that currently stands at three games.

On the road, New York has a record of 37-34, and the team’s overall record stands at 87-56. The Yankees hitters have a combined on-base percentage of .322, which is the fifth-best percentage in all of the major leagues.

The contest itself On Friday, the two clubs will compete against one another for the first time this year.

Friday: Frankie Montas vs. Adrian Houser (8:10 pm EDT)

What to say about Montas? In seven starts for the Yankees, their biggest trade deadline acquisition has a 5.94 ERA and 4.52 FIP. If there’s a silver lining, it’s that he’s almost exactly alternated good and bad starts, with his last being a 5.2-inning, four-run affair against the Rays. He struck out four batters and walked four. In his previous start, he went five innings with no earned runs against the Rays. If the trend continues, that’s all you can ask.

Saturday: Jameson Taillon vs. Brandon Woodruff (7:10 pm EDT)

On paper, Saturday’s pitching matchup is the evenest. Taillon‘s performance since the All-Star break hinges on his ability to keep the ball in the park. He pounds the zone aggressively, which helps his low walk rate, but he’ll leave one or two over the zone every appearance.

Sunday: Gerrit Cole vs. Jason Alexander (2:10 pm EDT)

What to expect from Gerrit Cole? Despite allowing just four hits, he gave up three homers against the Red Sox in a game the Yankees won despite him. If you take him deep, you stand a good chance of winning, but otherwise, he’s dynamite. A 3.30 ERA, 3.30 FIP, and 3.3 fWAR aren’t bad for the rotation ace, but we’d like to see more.

The Yankees are led by Aaron Judge, who has 57 home runs and 23 doubles for the team. Throughout the last ten games, Isiah Kiner-Falefa has gone 13 for 36 at the plate with two home runs and seven RBI.

In their last ten games, the Yankees went 8-2, had a batting average of .251, an earned run average of .268, and outscored their opponents by 24 runs.

INJURIES: DJ LeMahieu, Anthony Rizzo, Luis Gil, Andrew Benintendi, Aroldis Chapman, Harrison Bader, Scott Effross, Albert Abreu, Matt Carpenter, Luis Severino, Miguel Castro, Michael King, Chad Green, Stephen Ridings, and Zack Britton.
