As the New York Yankees continue their quest to fortify their pitching roster, MLB insider Jim Bowden, affiliated with The Athletic, suggests that superstar closer Josh Hader could be the perfect addition to the team.
MLB Insider Identifies Josh Hader as Ideal Fit for New York Yankees
The Yankees, despite already securing Juan Soto, Trent Grisham, Alex Verdugo, and Marcus Stroman earlier in the offseason, remain on the lookout for additional pitching talent, whether in the form of a starter or reliever.
According to reports, Hader is actively pursuing a contract that surpasses the five-year, $102 million deal secured by New York Mets closer Edwin Diaz. If the Yankees were to successfully land Hader, it could significantly elevate their bullpen, potentially making it one of the most formidable in Major League Baseball.
In the absence of acquiring another starting pitcher, the addition of Hader would undeniably strengthen the Yankees’ relief corps. The left-handed pitcher would assume the role of the team’s closer, leading to the repositioning of Clay Holmes as a setup man. Notably, as part of the deal that brought Juan Soto to the Yankees, Michael King was traded to the San Diego Padres, and the team faces the potential departure of free agent Wandy Peralta.
Despite the Yankees making an offer to Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, the proposal was rejected by Snell’s camp, making it less likely for him to join the team. In light of this development, the focus has shifted towards Josh Hader, with the Yankees considering the possibility of acquiring him to transform their bullpen into an elite and dominant force within the league.
