Luis Severino, starting the last game of a 4-game series against the Orioles, was treated rudely by the O’s lineup. He ran into trouble early, putting an already struggling offense into a 5-0 hole. Severino gave up 10 hits, 7 earned runs, and a walk in just 2.2 innings. The Orioles put him to work immediately, and he quickly ran up his pitch count, ultimately throwing 77 pitches by the time manager Aaron Boone gave him the hook after allowing a hit to shortstop of the O’s, Gunnar Henderson.

In 9 starts, Severino’s ERA stands at 7.17. Hitters have a slugging percentage of .560 against him, with 11 home runs allowed. Before the inning was over, the Orioles tacked on an additional 3 runs, with 6 earned runs charged to Severino, putting the Orioles in a good position to come back from a 2-0 deficit in the series to even it out the series. The Yankees are 3 games back from the top seed in the wild card, owned by the Orioles. Games in the regular season, head to head, will be considered if there is a tie between teams positioning themselves in the playoffs.

  1. Severino needs to go. He should be nowhere near a major league team. A AAA or AA pitcher could do better. The fact that they keep running him out there in the rotation shows the yankees (little “y”) have no clue what they are doing. Boone needs to go. Donaldson needs to go. Torres needs to go. They are a disgrace to the Yankees legacy.
