The Yankees announced Thursday that catcher Jose Trevino has been reinstated from the injured list following a brief rehab assignment.
Jose Trevino’s return from injury
Jose Trevino, who had been sidelined since mid-July with a left quad strain sustained while running the bases, rejoined the team ahead of their three-game series against the Tigers in Detroit.
Before his injury, the 31-year-old catcher was splitting time behind the plate with rookie Austin Wells. Jose Trevino has been a steady presence, slashing .244/.303/.714 with eight home runs and 27 RBIs this season. However, Wells’ recent success at the plate, particularly as the team’s cleanup hitter, has earned him a significant role in the lineup. Manager Aaron Boone noted that Wells’ bat will continue to be a key component, though the specifics of how playing time will be divided between the two catchers remain unclear.
Roster moves and impact
To make room for Jose Trevino on the roster, the Yankees optioned catcher Carlos Narvaez back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Narvaez, who appeared in six games during his stint with the Yankees, recorded three hits in 13 at-bats, along with two walks and six strikeouts.
Jose Trevino’s return provides a boost to the Yankees’ depth as they enter the final stretch of the season. His experience and defensive skills will be valuable assets as the team looks to remain competitive in the playoff race. The dynamic between Trevino and Wells will be closely watched as the Yankees navigate their remaining schedule.

Trevino’s a great teammate, a great guy & a fiery competitor, BUT . . .
He better NOT Start more than 1 or 2 games out of 10 ahead of Austin Wells!
Wells (as I screamed for months) has shown that he can be ONE OF THE BEST CATCHERS IN BASEBALL, as long as he Remains a STARTER, catching a Minimum of 8 of 10 games.
If Boonehead reverts to anything approaching a 50-50 split of the catching duties, Boone should be beaten to death with bats by everyone on the 26-man roster!
In fact, if Trevino catches more than 2 games out of 10, Get Out The Bats, Guys! (Rebar is preferable, though.)
And Trevino should NEVER start a Playoff Game! NEVER! No excuses, Boone, other than an injury.
