In April, the Yankees got Jose Trevino from the Texas Rangers. They never expected him to play a big part in the New York Yankees’ plans for 2022. The 30-year-old was meant to play second to catcher Ben Rortvedt, who arrived from Minnesota around the same time. But Rortvedt spent time on the sidelines due to injury and Jose Trevino jumped at the chance to take over as the starting catcher.
Jose Trevino had found his groove and was among the Yankees players who went to the All-Star team in July. Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Nestor Cortes, Clay Holmes, and Gerrit Cole, were the other Yankees on that team.
When the catcher was a guest on MLB Network’s Hot Stove on Wednesday, he had all praise for the Yankees. He was thankful for getting a chance to play in New York.
“New York brings out the best in you,” told Trevino, “You want to be the best? Go play in New York.”
Jose Trevino emerges as the Yankees’ best player in 2022, but no one knew about it when he arrived. For the first time in his career, he was chosen as an All-Star. He won a Gold Glove for his performance in the 2022 season. This followed his first Fielding Bible Award in the offseason. Jose Trevino was chosen for the Platinum Glove Award too. At bat, he scored 11 home runs, 130 total bases, and 43 runs at .248.
Jose Trevino helped get the team to the ALCS for the first time since 2019 and enjoyed playing in front of Yankees fans. He has talked many times about how much he loves New York and what it means to him to play for the Yankees. The Yankees catcher loves getting to play in New York, and he can’t wait to get back on the field in 2023.
Nestor Cortes assures Yankees fans of a good 2023
Nestor Cortes has high hopes for a successful Yankees title chase in 2023. Recently, he told MLB Network about the Yankees’ pitching rotation for 2023 and it would enthuse any Yankees fan. He told:
“It’s a powerful rotation. I mean, you go down the list. Gerrit (Cole) obviously… we all know who Gerrit is. (Frankie) Montas has been great for Oakland and then he came over, you know, he had that injury but we have trust in him that he can be that guy. Luis Severino is a superstar. I’m glad he’s back with us… For (Domingo) German, everybody forgets what he did in ’19. He won a lot of games for us… he had a great season that year.”
“To have that rotation on paper right now, it’s great. And hopefully we can dominate again next year.”
Nestor Cortes had a career-best season in 2022. In 28 games, he had an ERA of 2.44. He also made the All-Star team for the first time. Though the Yankees’ season ended early in the playoffs, there were still a lot of good things about 2022. Nestor Cortes’s brilliance was definitely one of these good things, as he has become a good No. 2 pitcher for the Yankees after Gerrit Cole. But New York could try to strengthen their rotation by adding players from outside the team. In free agency, they have been linked to stars like Jacob deGrom.
