NORTH PORT, Fla. – Jasson Dominguez has already had a spectacular spring, hitting a home run in his second at-bat with the big leaguers and earning excellent accolades from the Yankees top brass. “Martian” is just getting started.

According to MLB Pipeline, Jasson Dominguez is the No. 2 prospect for the Yankees. On Sunday, he continued to impress when he hit a three-run home run that put the Yankees ahead and helped them beat the Braves 10-6 at CoolToday Park.

“The best thing about it is just being around the guys that are in the big leagues,” Jasson Dominguez said. “I was seeing this camp as a learning experience, so being around those guys and learning from those guys has definitely been great.”

Jasson Dominguez’s second spring home run was massive. The ball went over the right-field wall and hit a cement walkway before going high into the air. Before the ninth, New York was behind by 6-2.

“It just seems like the game moves slow to him a little bit in that box,” manager Aaron Boone said. “He’s got such a good command of the strike zone. This time, it was a behind-in-the-count, quality at-bat, and he just stepped on it.”

Jasson Dominguez, who is only 20 years old, is the youngest player in the Major League camp. This spring, he hit .417 (5-for-12), scored six runs, drove in four runs, walked twice, and stole a base. He had his first home run on Saturday.

Jasson Dominguez agreed with Boone, saying that he is “seeing the ball much better” lately, hitting in better counts, and playing more loosely.

“That’s how I like to play the game,” Domínguez said. “That’s one of the things that I’ve learned over the years; that as the game speeds up, you have to do the opposite. If you allow the game to speed you up, then you get out of your rhythm.”

Jasson Dominguez relishes the spotlight

It is believed the Yankees may let Jasson Dominguez play the 2023 season at Double-A Somerset. The Martian was a star there toward the end of the 2022 season. However, still, there is a lot of excitement and interest about his future, even among some of the more experienced players on the roster.

When Jasson Dominguez hit a home run, some of his teammates had already left the game and were getting ready in the visiting clubhouse. Oswaldo Cabrera, an infielder, and outfielder raised both fists in a victory pose, and catcher Kyle Higashioka yelled, “The Martian!”

Even though he knows he has “more fans” at this level, Jasson Dominguez says he is trying to stay as far away from the public as possible because he doesn’t want to lose his focus.

“I’m not really reading comments or anything like that,” he said. “I don’t really spend much time on social media.”
