In a strategic move to bolster their lineup, the New York Yankees have acquired infielder J.D. Davis from the Oakland Athletics. The trade comes in response to injuries sidelining key players Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton.
How much does J.D Davis cost for Yankees?
As stated by the Washington Post, the Yankees will pay J.D. Davis just $389,892 for the remainder of the season, a prorated share of the $740,000 major league minimum, while Oakland will contribute $927,312 to New York on October 11.
This financial arrangement significantly offsets the $1,317,204 Davis was owed for the final 98 days of the season under his $2.5 million, one-year contract.
J.D. Davis, 31, who was hitting .232 with four home runs and five RBIs in 135 plate appearances for the A’s, is expected to see more time at first base and could also serve as a designated hitter. His performance against left-handers has been notable, with a .265 batting average this year compared to .225 against right-handers.
Originally signed by the A’s in mid-March and designated for assignment in June, J.D Davis had earlier won an arbitration case against the San Francisco Giants, securing a $6.9 million salary for the season. However, he was released by the Giants and received $1,112,903 in termination pay.
The Yankees sought Davis’ reinforcement following Anthony Rizzo’s forearm injury on June 16, which is expected to keep him out until August, and Giancarlo Stanton’s hamstring strain last Saturday, leaving a gap in their primary designated hitter position.
In exchange for Davis, the Yankees sent minor league infielder Jordan Groshans to Oakland, looking to solidify their roster as they navigate through these critical injuries.
