The New York Yankees are busy trying to sign players who are going to strengthen their bullpen before the trade deadline. The Yankees are said to have interested in signing Pete Alonso, but Jon Heyman of NY POST, reveals that the team is thinking of signing more players, and Tanner Scott is one of them.
Be that as it may, another journalist mentioned names that could also be on the Yankees’ radar.
Pete Alonso on the radar of the Yankees
The Mets, currently struggling, might be compelled to trade some of their top players. At this point in time, the most high-caliber player that could be available on the market is Pete Alonso, that’s what people in front office positions are saying to Jim Bowden of The Athletic.
Besides ranging Alonso as an attractive trade option, Bowden adds that New York might also eye Guerrero, Yandy Diaz, Joe, Goldschmidt, and Bell as their first base players.
Bowden added that “the Yankees would focus on the right side of the infield” hoping that both first baseman Anthony Rizzo and second baseman Gleyber Torres will start to play better. Should they not, it will be a trade to another team for possible options” is the approach the Yankees will undertake.
Bowden also mentioned that the end of the season will mean that his contract with the Mets will finish and he will be a free agent. So, the Mets should make a “concerted effort” to re-sign him in the winter, or even if they trade him now.
Yankees looking for other options
As per Jon Heyman’s write-up, the Yankees are of the mount point that they have no worries at first base as DJ LeMahieu takes the responsibility and at second base with Jon Berti or the Yankees will also use DJ LeMahieu who can manage both positions.
With such a possibility, the Yankees definitely will not try to land a player of Alonso’s status as he will be the centre player. Instead, they are all about enhancing the bullpen and getting in an extra starting pitcher, granted that other teams might have a bigger need in that area, particularly with ace Gerrit Cole having to come back in a week.
Not only Tanner Scott but also Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox are known to be on the Yankees radar. Crochet was a reliever formerly but now he is also a starter that reached electric height and now is the AL leader with 103 strikeouts but what should be analyzed is the they are throwing him 21 1/3 more innings now than he did for the first time in the whole MLB league
