WFAN host Brandon Tierney made a bold claim, calling Yankees slugger Aaron Judge the greatest New York athlete of the last 50 years. Tierney’s assertion, delivered during his Thursday broadcast, followed Aaron Judge’s milestone 300th career home run, achieved on Wednesday. According to Tierney, the slugger’s achievements place him at the top of New York’s sporting hierarchy, surpassing legends from multiple sports across the past five decades.

— WFAN Sports Radio (@WFAN660) August 15, 2024

WFAN host Brandon Tierney made a strong argument for Aaron Judge as the greatest New York athlete. He claimed that no one in the city has ever excelled at their craft more than Judge, comparing the slugger’s nightly performances to something out of a video game. Tierney highlighted how the Yankees slugger continues to improve, becoming more refined and polished with age.

While acknowledging the legendary statuses of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig at the pinnacle of Yankees history, Tierney focused on those who have been following sports since the late 1970s and early 1980s—first as young fans and later as passionate enthusiasts. For this group, Tierney believes Aaron Judge stands out as the ultimate athlete.

He concluded by declaring that, in his opinion, Aaron Judge is the finest New York athlete he has ever seen, stressing that this judgment isn’t even close—cementing Judge’s exceptional place in New York sports history.

Aaron Judge’s season has been nothing short of spectacular, putting him in prime position to secure his second AL MVP award. His stats are remarkable: he leads the league in home runs (43), RBIs (110), walks (102), OPS (1.174), and OPS+ (224)—the latter showing that his offensive production is more than double that of an average player. Aaron Judge is also in contention for the Triple Crown, trailing only 16 points behind Bobby Witt Jr. of the Royals in batting average.

Every time Aaron Judge steps up to the plate, he delivers impressive results, making him a constant threat to opponents.

Fans differ from host’s Aaron Judge exaltation

However, Tierney’s claim that the slugger is the best New York athlete has sparked mixed reactions among fans. Many critics argue that the Yankees captain’s lack of championship titles is a key reason they disagree with this bold statement.

He mispronounced Lawrence Taylor and Derek Jeter

Not a single championship

— Frank V (@Fmv5604) August 15, 2024

LT exist, Eli exist, Ewing exist, Jeter exist, I can go on for quite a min before I get to Judge. Nothing against him at all, he’s a great player, but he’s far from the greatest NY athlete in this lifetime

— StretchMon3y (@Mon3yStretch) August 16, 2024

What is he, 16? I love Judge but he has never won anything, unlike Eli Manning, LT, Willis Reed, Tom Seaver, Mike Bossy, etc.

— The Nose (@TheNoseNY) August 16, 2024

He's gotta win something first

— MitchVision (@MitchVision84) August 16, 2024

Love 99, but he’s ringless. Hopefully not for much longer, but you gotta be a champion to be the NY 🐐 discussion.
