The New York Yankees head into the 2025 season with high expectations following their 2024 American League pennant victory. Although Juan Soto departed during the offseason, the Yankees remain one of the most formidable teams in the league. With manager Aaron Boone returning for his eighth season, the team is poised to compete for its first World Series title since 2009.
Yankees ready for 2025 challenge: Will Aaron Boone get a contract extension?

Hal Steinbrenner, owner of the Yankees, recently addressed Boone’s future with the organization during an interview with YES Network’s Meredith Marakovits. The Yankees picked up Boone’s team option for 2025, but Steinbrenner hinted at the possibility of a contract extension. “I’ve always thought Aaron Boone was a very good manager, and that’s his reputation in the industry,” Steinbrenner stated. “We will be talking to him in the days and weeks to come. We’re trying to hit the priorities right now, which is the roster itself. But there will be conversations had with him about potentially staying longer than that.”
Steinbrenner confirmed that discussions regarding Boone’s future would “without a doubt” take place this offseason and potentially stretch into the regular season. The Yankees manager has had a career marked by both achievements and challenges, including back-to-back 100-win seasons early in his tenure, but also disappointing moments like the 2021 Wild Card loss and the team’s absence from the 2023 playoffs.
The Yankees are set to welcome several notable additions to their roster in 2025, including Max Fried, Cody Bellinger, and Devin Williams. Boone’s leadership will be critical in integrating these new players and maintaining the chemistry of the clubhouse. His ability to guide the Yankees to success in 2024, following their struggles in 2023, demonstrated his resilience as a manager. Injuries, including a significant one to Aaron Judge, hindered the Yankees in 2023, but Boone’s leadership helped turn the tide last season with a division title and AL pennant.
Without a contract extension finalized this offseason, Boone could enter 2025 as a “sitting-duck” manager, which might add urgency for the Yankees. The team’s performance could serve as a referendum on Boone’s future, especially in an increasingly competitive AL East. The resurgence of the Red Sox and other division rivals will test the Yankees throughout the season. However, with a roster stacked with talent and a proven manager at the helm, the Yankees have the tools to overcome any obstacles.
Despite the uncertainties, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Yankees extend Boone’s contract before Opening Day. Steinbrenner’s public support for Boone underscores the organization’s confidence in his ability to lead the team toward its ultimate goal: bringing another World Series title back to the Bronx. The Yankees, with their storied history and dedicated fanbase, are ready to make another championship push in 2025.
