New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres will miss his second consecutive game on Sunday against the Boston Red Sox due to right groin soreness.
Gleyber Torres missed Saturday’s 14-4 victory over the Red Sox and will sit out again on Sunday. In his absence, Oswaldo Cabrera will start at second base and bat seventh in the lineup for the series finale.
When will Gleyber Torres be back with the Yankees?
According to CBS, Gleyber Torres, who exited Friday’s game early, will also benefit from the team’s off day on Monday, with a targeted return for Tuesday’s series opener against the Tampa Bay Rays.
What happened
Gleyber Torres aggravated his right groin while beating out an infield hit during the fourth inning of Friday night’s game against Boston. This is not the first time Torres has experienced groin issues, having left a June 20 game against Baltimore with similar tightness. The Yankees reported that Torres was examined at the stadium, with no immediate plans for imaging.
Manager Aaron Boone expressed that he did not believe the injury was significant but was uncertain about Torres’ availability this weekend. The Yankees are also without first baseman Anthony Rizzo, sidelined since June 16 with a broken forearm, and designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton, out since June 22 due to a strained hamstring.

Three groin issues with Torres in the last 2 weeks. At what point do they get smart and just put him on the IL? They put him on today, he’s eligible to come back after the ASB.
