For the first time in recent months, the Yankees are glad to avoid injury despite an MRI. Frankie Montas missed injury to his troublesome shoulder and will be back in action after getting extra rest.
The pitcher has a history of the right-shoulder problem that kept him away from the starting lineup. Last Friday, it again surfaced and Frankie Montas felt discomfort following a game against the brewers.
The Yankees already struggling due to injuries to their star players, put him through an MRI while waiting for results anxiously. Manager Aaron Boone went on to expect a minor injury. The possibility of any injury to Frankie Mointas left their pitching department worried.
An MRI on his pitching shoulder revealed nothing major, so he might not be out for very long.
Frankie Montas could still get some extra rest because of the discomfort in his shoulder that made him go to the doctor on Saturday after his last bad game in Milwaukee.
The Yankees acquired on a deadline-day trade from Oakland. Montas joined New York with his fellow teammate Lou Trivino.
The 29-year old started for New York in eight games and has a 6.35 ERA. In his most recent start, he gave up four runs in 3 1/3 innings.
After Montas reported feeling discomfort in his shoulder, he was sent for an immediate injury assessment. Yankees physician Chris Ahmad will have the final say on his return.
The shoulder problem kept Frankie Montas on the Oakland injury list. He had inflammation on his pitching shoulder that compelled him to take rest.
Montas said the pain wasn’t as bad as what he felt when he was shut down by the A’s. On Saturday the player disclosed that the discomfort in the shoulder was similar to “normal soreness from pitching” and expected the possibility of making his next start very soon.
Since his return is not decided yet, so the Yankees could use Domingo German in place of Montas, at least for one game.
