Luis Severino, a prominent figure in the Yankees‘ pitching roster, bid a heartfelt goodbye to fans in an emotional Instagram post on Friday. The post, accompanied by a poignant slideshow of Severino in iconic Yankee pinstripes, expressed gratitude for the unwavering support received over his remarkable 12-year tenure.

Luis Severino bids emotional farewell to Yankees after 12 Years

In his reflective message, Severino recounted his journey from a young fan in the Dominican Republic to fulfilling his childhood dream of playing professional baseball in the MLB, donning the revered pinstripes. The Dominican native signed with the New York Yankees in 2011 as an international free agent, marking the beginning of a transformative chapter in his life and career.

“As a young boy growing up in the Dominican Republic as a Yankee fan, I could only dream of what it would be like to play the game that I love professionally at the MLB level and earn the opportunity to don the famous pinstripes,” he continued. “In 2011, my dreams became a reality when the New York Yankees organization took a chance on me and gave me and my family the opportunity of a lifetime by signing me as an international free agent.”

Severino at the Yankees

Severino’s impact on the Yankees was profound, with his debut in 2015 evolving into a prominent role as the team’s ace in 2017 and 2018. Over his initial 96 games, including 85 starts, he achieved a notable 41-25 record with a 3.51 ERA and an impressive 572 strikeouts across 518 innings. His stellar performance earned him two All-Star nods, solidifying his status as a key player for the franchise.

However, Severino’s trajectory took an unfortunate turn with a series of injuries, including a significant stint on the injured list after undergoing Tommy John surgery in June 2020. The 2023 season proved challenging for Severino, marked by struggles on the mound and career-worst statistics in various categories. Despite these setbacks, Severino expressed gratitude for the shared memories and the privilege of representing one of the world’s greatest sports organizations.

The emotional farewell comes at a time when Severino’s future with the Yankees appears uncertain, especially considering his challenging recent season. Fans, teammates, and the baseball community now await news of Severino’s next chapter, acknowledging his impact and contributions to the Yankees’ legacy. As Severino moves on from the Bronx, the heartfelt sentiments shared in his Instagram post resonate as a touching tribute to a memorable era in his baseball journey.
