Following his release by the New York Yankees, pitcher Domingo German is actively seeking a new major league contract this offseason. According to MLB Insider Mike Rodriguez, his talents have attracted “several teams” interested in adding him to their rotation.
Among the frontrunners for Domingo German’s services are the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Los Angeles Angels. Both teams have reportedly engaged with the right-hander in discussions and appear to be serious contenders for his signature.
English Translation: “Various teams interested in Domingo Germán. Germán has met on several occasions with the #Ángeles and the #Piratas who aim to be one of the finalists. #DomingoGerman.”
The Pittsburgh Pirates, determined to fortify their rotation, are actively pursuing Domingo German. Landing him would significantly bolster their staff, and a swift deal would facilitate his integration into spring training.
While reports suggest the Los Angeles Angels are prioritizing Blake Snell, the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner, Domingo German could emerge as a compelling alternative if their pursuit falls through.
Domingo German, a product of the New York Yankees system, spent his entire six-year career with the Bronx Bombers. During that time, he logged 112 appearances, including 89 starts, accumulating a 31-28 win-loss record and a 4.41 ERA. He also struck out 543 batters across 522.1 innings pitched.
Domingo German’s perfect glory overshadowed by challenges
On June 28, 2023, at 31 years old, Domingo German etched his name in baseball history by throwing the 24th perfect game in Major League Baseball history. This feat against the Oakland Athletics marked the first such achievement since Felix Hernandez’s perfect game in 2012 and made him the fourth Yankee pitcher, most by any team, to accomplish this incredible feat.
However, the rest of the season proved less triumphant for Domingo German. He compiled a 5-7 record with a 4.56 ERA across 20 appearances, totaling 108.2 innings with 114 strikeouts and 34 walks. His season ended prematurely in August 2023 when he voluntarily entered treatment for alcohol abuse, further adding to a previously tarnished image. In 2020, he was suspended for 81 games by MLB for violating the domestic violence policy following an incident in 2021.
