The Los Angeles Dodgers are enhancing their baseball operations with the inclusion of a familiar face and a formidable bat. As reported by ESPN’s Fabian Ardaya on Friday, the team has appointed former All-Star outfielder Raul Ibanez as the new Vice President of Baseball Development and Special Projects.

Although Postseason Yankees Homer Hero Raul Ibanez joins Dodgers’s playing career spanned 19 seasons across six teams, including the Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Angels, and New York Yankees, his impactful year in pinstripes left an indelible mark on both the city and his own legacy. His iconic moment came during the 2012 American League Division Series against the Baltimore Orioles, solidifying his place in the Yankees lore.

Yankees’ postseason home run maestro Raul Ibanez

Facing a 2-1 deficit in the bottom of the 9th of Game 3, Raul Ibanez stepped in as a pinch-hitter for a struggling Alex Rodriguez. In a mere two pitches, he electrified the crowd by launching a Jim Johnson fastball into the right-center field seats, tying the game. The drama extended into extra innings, and in the 12th, Ibañez took center stage once again. Swinging at the first pitch from Brian Matusz, he sent the ball over the right-field wall in another majestic blast.

Three swings, and two home runs, and the Yankees celebrated a walk-off victory. That series triumph, their last until the “Baby Bombers” led by Aaron Judge reached the 2017 World Series, forever linked Raul Ibanez’s name to Yankee lore.

Beyond his thrilling playoff heroics, Raul Ibanez compiled a commendable .272/.335/.465 slash line throughout his career, earning an All-Star selection in 2009 and joining the exclusive group of only 76 players with at least 2,000 hits, 400 doubles, and 300 home runs.

Since retiring in 2014, Raul Ibanez has maintained his involvement in the game through various roles. He served as an advisor to Dodgers GM Andrew Friedman, provided his insights as a broadcaster for ESPN, and most recently, held the position of MLB’s senior vice president of on-field operations.

With his diverse experience and proven leadership qualities, Raul Ibanez emerges as a valuable asset for the Dodgers. In his new role, he will concentrate on talent development and special projects, potentially leveraging his extensive knowledge and network across the league to further fortify the LA powerhouse.

I wish Raul well. He was an excellent ballplayer with a solid career under his belt. I believe he is also a very solid baseball mind an an asset to any team he is associated with. The Dodgers are building a solid infrastructure in addition to a scary on field team.
