Aaron Boone is facing the most difficult time of his life. From Yankees fans to sportscasters, everyone is seeking his head. The last to demand his sacking is ex-Yankee great Mariano Rivera.

The 13-time All-Star pitcher has stated that if he had the last say, Aaron Boone would not have a chance to return as manager of the Yankees next season.

While speaking on the sidelines of the Sports Forum of the Panamanian Association of Business Executives, Mariano Rivera told

“If I’m the owner, Aaron Boone wouldn’t stay. When things don’t come out the way we want them to all of the fault goes on the manager and somebody has to pay the price and we won’t put that on the players…”

However, his comments couldn’t force the Yankees to part ways with Boone. Their owner Hal Steinbrenner announced at the Tampa player development complex that he was not going to sack manager Boone, who had five seasons with the Yankees so far. After the Yankees were eliminated in the AL Wild Card Game in 2021, Boone agreed to a three-year deal. Steinbrenner also acknowledged in the same interview that he and general manager Brian Cashman have had preliminary talks about the 2023 team, which suggests that Cashman will soon get an offer to come back. Cashman’s five-year contract ends when the World Series is over.

He spoke to Associated Press :

“As far as Boone’s concerned, we just signed him [to an extension last offseason] and for all the same reasons I listed a year ago, I believe he is a very good manager. I don’t see a change there.”

But Mariano Rivera stated that if he owned the Yankees, Aaron Boone would be fired.

Yankees fans have been getting more and more upset because their team can’t get past the Astros, and they just got swept out of the 2022 ALCS. Michael Kay, a longtime Yankees play-by-play broadcaster, ripped Aaron Boone apart for taking Gerrit Cole out of Game 3.

Mariano Rivera is one of the best MLB players of all time. He played with Aaron Boone on the Yankees team that came in second place in the 2003 World Series. He pitched from 1995 to 2013. During that time, he won five World Series rings and saved 652 games during the regular season. He was an All-Star 13 times, and in 2019, he became the first player in history to be voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame by every single voter.

He was one of the best regular-season pitchers ever, with an ERA of 2.21, and he was even better in the playoffs, with an ERA of 0.70.
