On June 8, 1969, a memorable event occurred in the Bronx. The New York Yankees proudly retired the No. 7 of their esteemed player, Mickey Mantle. A sold-out Yankee Stadium filled with approximately 61,000 passionate fans witnessed this special occasion.

The crowd erupted in applause, showing their appreciation for Mickey Mantle’s exceptional accomplishments as a player. At the same time, there was a sense of sadness among the fans, knowing that Mantle had chosen to step away from a remarkable journey in the world of baseball.

On that historic day, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle’s fellow Yankee teammate, had the honor of presenting him with a plaque. This special plaque was meant to be displayed on the center field wall.

In a playful gesture, Mickey Mantle reciprocates the gesture by presenting DiMaggio with his own plaque, suggesting that it should be hung “just a little bit higher.” The lighthearted exchange between the two legendary players added a touch of camaraderie to the memorable occasion.
