On Monday, CC Sabathia, the commanding left-hander who anchored the Yankees’ rotation for over a decade, took a significant step toward baseball immortality with his debut on the Baseball Hall of Fame ballot. The 2025 class carries a strong Yankees presence, headlined by Sabathia and another iconic figure, Ichiro Suzuki.

CC Sabathia’s path to Cooperstown has been a testament to his excellence and durability. Earlier this year, he was inducted into the Cleveland Guardians Hall of Fame, honoring the team that selected him in the first round of the 1998 MLB Draft. Sabathia made his MLB debut at just 20 years old in 2001, quickly becoming a force on the mound. That season, he posted a 17-5 record with a 4.39 ERA, finishing second in the AL Rookie of the Year race behind Ichiro, who is now his fellow Hall of Fame candidate.

The Yankees secured CC Sabathia’s services in December 2008 with a seven-year deal that immediately paid dividends. In his debut season in New York, Sabathia went 19-8 with a 3.37 ERA, striking out 197 batters across 34 starts. However, it was in the postseason where Sabathia truly shone, compiling a remarkable 1.98 ERA over five starts and earning ALCS MVP honors while leading the Yankees to their 27th World Series championship.

Across 11 seasons in the Bronx, CC Sabathia became a symbol of resilience and leadership, amassing 134 wins and countless clutch performances. His final season in 2019 was a milestone-filled farewell, highlighted by his 250th career win and 3,000th strikeout—achievements shared by only two other left-handed pitchers, Steve Carlton and Randy Johnson. With a career WAR of 62.3, Sabathia boasts the highest mark among this year’s first-time Hall of Fame candidates, solidifying his place among baseball’s elite.

Joining CC Sabathia on the ballot are several other former Yankees. Ichiro Suzuki, renowned for his unmatched hitting and outfield artistry, is a virtual lock for first-ballot induction. Other notable candidates include Brian McCann and Russell Martin, both of whom contributed as catchers during their Yankees tenures, and Curtis Granderson, whose back-to-back 40-home-run seasons electrified the Bronx.

The 2025 Hall of Fame class will be revealed in January, with the induction ceremony set for July 25–28 in Cooperstown. Sabathia’s candidacy serves as a celebration of his remarkable career and his impact on two storied franchises—the Cleveland Guardians and the New York Yankees.

As Yankees fans reflect on CC Sabathia’s legacy, his Hall of Fame ballot debut is a fitting moment to honor one of the most accomplished and beloved pitchers of his era. From his Cy Young-caliber seasons to his postseason brilliance, Sabathia’s career is nothing short of legendary.
