NEW YORK — Carlos Rodon’s wife had a simple one-word message after his dominant outing on Monday night: “boss.” The New York Yankees left-hander shook off a rough start to deliver a near no-hitter in a 9-1 win over the Minnesota Twins at Yankee Stadium.
Ashley Rodon shared her reaction on social media shortly after the game, revealing her nerves during the opening frame.
“Not gonna lie might have been having a panic attack after the first,” she posted, before adding, “but what a boss to go 7 and give up 1 after a 30 pitch first. Let’s go win!”
Early trouble in first inning

Carlos Rodon’s night began with a tense 30-pitch first inning. He gave up a leadoff single to Austin Martin, walked Byron Buxton, and hit Ryan Jeffers to load the bases with no outs. The Twins managed their only run of the game when Royce Lewis grounded into a fielder’s choice to score Martin.
Rodon escaped further damage by striking out Kody Clemens and then settled into a dominant groove.
It marked the beginning of one of the most impressive pitching displays at Yankee Stadium this season and provided the efficiency that the Yankees’ overworked bullpen desperately needed.
Rodon locks in for historic performance
After the first inning, the Yankees ace retired 20 of the next 21 batters he faced. He carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, allowing just one hit across seven frames. Rodon struck out five and walked two, throwing 96 pitches in total.
“That wasn’t in my head in the moment,” Rodon said when asked if he thought he might not make it out of the first inning. “I was trying to get three outs after a hit, walk and hit by pitch. That was it.”
Boone praises Rodon’s recovery
Manager Aaron Boone admitted the rocky start had him concerned.
“It’s one of those where it’s like, is he going to get out of the first inning? That’s where your mind is for a minute,” Boone said. “Really big effort by him to be able to give us 7 innings after a 30+ pitch first inning.”
The performance lowered Rodon’s ERA to 3.25 and improved his record to 12-7 for the season.
Yankees’ bullpen seals the one-hitter
Relievers Tim Hill and Yerry De Los Santos completed the one-hitter, the Yankees’ second such game this season. Hill retired the side in order in the eighth on nine pitches, while De Los Santos struck out two in a clean ninth.
The near no-hitter carries particular weight given Rodon’s previous experience with baseball’s ultimate pitching achievement. He threw the 20th no-hitter in Chicago White Sox history against Cleveland on April 14, 2021. That experience showed as he navigated the late innings with composure, attacking hitters rather than nibbling around the zone.
For a Yankees franchise rich in pitching history—including 13 official no-hitters and four perfect games, this performance ranks among the most impressive individual efforts of their inconsistent 2025 campaign. The dominance over Minnesota also continued a remarkable trend: the Yankees have now won nine consecutive games against the Twins, outscoring them by significant margins while limiting their offensive production.
The win also extended the Yankees’ winning streak against Minnesota to nine games.
